    I use this compressor on voice over recordings because it has that transparent quality that dbx is known for. It is subtle, and does not color the sound. The 1066 model has two channels of expander/gate, compressor, and limiter. The number of knobs is "just right". Not so simplified that you lose functionality, yet not so complex that you have so many knobs that you don't even know what they do. The expander/gate component brings out the clarity in the voice, the compressor portion smooths out the variations in volume, and the limiter prevents clipping - before the signal hits digital recorder. It is nice to be able to take care of these tasks before the signal is recorded, it avoids having to do it later in the computer.
