Chromes Flatwound Bass strings are wound and then polished to produce an incredibly smooth surface.

I put a set of D'Addario ECB82 flats on my 2001 Fender Fretless Jazz bass, as I was unimpressed with the factory strings. I could immediately notice a difference in tone. These strings do produce the warm sound they advertise. And if you think that all flats have poor sustain, you are most certainly wrong. These strings allow for long sustain even when playing notes high on the fretboard. While I prefer roundwounds for slapping and popping, you can easily pop and slap on these strings, although they do not feel as responsive as roundwounds in my opinion. The only thing I don't like is that the G string sounds a little too bright for my liking. These are great strings, and no matter what type of bass you own, I am sure you will be satisfied.
I've played Chromes in the past in the 45-100 guage. While I liked them I felt that they liked something. I recently put a set of these on my P-Bass {50-105's}, and what a difference! My lows are rich and full. Mids are barky with a nice aggressive growl, and my highs are bright and even sounding. Im going to put these on my Jazz Bass as well. Nice, Full, sparkly Tone!!
These strings have a great tone. Classic, makes you feel like James Jamerson. The strings do have a light coating of what seems like chrome shavings covering the strings. Wipe down the strings a few times with a rag to get rid of it or you will have it on your fingers.
