The BOSS RC-30 Loop Station is the latest addition to the company's industry-leading lineup of pedal-based loop recorders, featuring high-powered digital signal processing, stereo operation, and cutting-edge features. Powered by the ESC2 DSP chip, the RC-30 Loop Station offers musicians one of the most powerful and best-sounding tools yet for recording and manipulating loops live and in the studio.
Housed in BOSS' popular twin-pedal chassis, the RC-30's new features include true stereo ins/outs and up to three hours of onboard stereo recording and loop storage. The new dual-phrase loop feature lets you create and play two completely independent stereo loops in perfect sync.
LOOP FX is for processing your loops in real time, with 99 memory slots for storage. The RC-30 also boasts a USB 2.0 port for swapping and managing WAV loops with your computer. A mic input with phantom power, aux in jack for portable devices, and a key selection of onboard rhythms including real audio drum loops come standard.

We bought this for my stepdaughter's b'day & my husband and she both are really enjoying it. As always Guitar Center employees were so helpful with this purchase, and they have great prices! Very happy:)
The loopstation was mainly designed for a musican who wants to create/play songs and all the parts quickly within minutes. A sort of band in a box/multi track recorder. Which it ought to be well suited for. My own interest was in creating loops as in short (max of a few seconds) that repeat as a groove. This unit is very good for creating a multi layered loop. After that the loopstation is very limited. Only five effects are included and no altering of pitch (which would also alter tempo) is available. Many years ago, Boss had a small pedal that was a delay and sampler which had that function but no overdubbing feature.
I have just purchased the unit from guitar center and have tested the unit in all the features and capabilities. To my opinion is not a bad unit to be used as intended. The only problem observed is the timelapse when switching phrases. The sound quality is excellent, and when used with a mike with phantom power you get very good results. Very flexible when switching tracks if used together with external dual pedals. RC-30 provides a rhythm track, consisting of 10 patterns at 4/4 and also selectable 3/4 time in each one of these. The memory saving via USB is a plus for me, and if used the correct way , it will store all your creations with rhythm track included. If you think this unit is not powerfull, you must visit YouTube for excellent sample videos recorded with this unit. I understand , that if used properly, you can get excellent results out of this unit.
I loved my RC20...but after many years and spilled beers it was time to upgrade, so I took a chance on the RC30 figuring, like the other reviewers it would be a major step up. I also find it to be a few steps forward, a few back. For anyone else in my predicament seeking a replacement for their RC20 but slightly paranoid about the additional functions of the RC30, it should be noted (and is on the last page of the manual) that by turning the unit on while holding down the LOOPFX button you can revert the pedal functions of the RC30 to the exact functions of the RC20. Bouncing patches from the RC20 is indeed tricky, however although burdensome once completed now it's something you can back up eliminating the fear I've had for years of a total failure. Also, the additional time and patches are...for someone who is used to the admittedly limited memory of the RC20...well, HUGE. ...they really could have spared us the stereo i/o and skipped the rhythm volume knob and instead routed it to the same line in as the RC20....that would have been a MAJOR plus.
