  • Best small diaphragm condensor in this price range.

As reviewed by Chris on 2/19/2011

This microphone sounds good on most sources. Great on acoustic guitars, percussion i.e. shakers, tambourines etc, drum overheads, and in front of electric guitar amps. Can sound great on vocals with the right voice. I purchased 2 of these for stereo recording acoustic guitars and as drum overheads. Even though they are not consecutive serial numbers or a matched pair, they excel in these 2 areas. Disengage the focus swich (just a fancy name for a high pass filter) and acoustic guitars are full sounding and detailed, with all frequencies represented well. With the focus switch engaged, extra low end energy from the kick and floor toms are nicely controlled when used as drum overheads. This mic is strongly built. No flimsy plastic or cheap looking contruction anywhere, it is all top notch. It even comes in a cherry stained custom wood case. Presentation is first class. The only negative that keeps this from being a 5 star mic is the flimsy shock mount and a mediocre pop filter. The shockmount is made of aluminum and looks fantastic, but the screw mount on the base is very hard to turn, as the machined aluminum binds on itself. Also the wingnut to tighten the adjustment pivot does not seem to hold very well, so a bump to the stand can cause the mic to move from position. The custom pop filter looks amazing as well, but cannot handle hard plosives that a good pop filter should. Overall I strongly recommend this microphone to anyone looking for a professional sound at a project price.

  • Awesome mic

As reviewed by Mau on 2/24/2011

I had work with blue mics in the past so I decided to order this one for my home studio and I'm quite impressed with the quality of both the mic itself and the sound you can get from it, really warm and present. The focus control button is basically a high pass filter around 120 Hz but it definitely comes handy sometimes . The shock-mount and the pop filter are really good quality too and are a nice plus. For the price you can't go wrong.

  • Great recording mic.

As reviewed by Jason on 4/6/2011

I've had this mic for about 3 weeks now. I use it in my home studio and have recorded myself and the lead singer of another band. His band does pop punk type music similar to "all time low", I sing more poppy rock/blues music. This mic sounds great for both. It's very very clear and vocals come out way better with this mic than any other mic I've used. I've had 2 minor problems with the mic. First, the pop filter sucks at a close range. It works but not well enough. Not a problem though I just use a seperate pop filter. Second problem bothers me a little more and that is the shock mounts makes a lot of noise if the mic is bumped. That's disappointing cause with the quality of this mic I don't want anything else to get in the way. Overall a WONDERFUL mic though
