Behringer

Description

The Behringer XENYX Q502USB mixer is made to handle live gigs, and provide you with the required tools necessary to capture professional-quality recordings. Along with its built-in USB/audio interface, and "one-knob" mono channel compressor, the XENYX Q1002USB mixer comes with enough recording and editing software to turn your computer into a complete recording studio. The smallest of the XENYX Q Series, the Q502USB is a 5-input, 2-bus mixer with a XENYX mic preamp and compressor, just the right size for smaller solo gigs. Thanks to onboard phantom power, Q502USB's XENYX mic preamp can handle dynamic, as well as a studio-grade condenser mic. Elegant in its simplicity, the British-style, 2-band EQ provides warm and musical tone correction. The Q502USB also sports RCA CD/Tape I/O, handy for playing break music or for recording your set.

XENYX Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common; great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer 130dB of dynamic range with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. As a result, XENYX mixers can reproduce a cleaner, transparent performance.

British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ˜70s changed the sound of rock and roll. Without them, the British Invasion might not have even happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQs on all XENYX mixers are based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to saturate signals with warmth and character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit forgiveness and superb audio quality.

USB Audio Interface
Modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. But how do you get all that music flying around your brain into a computer? Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source connected to the mixer can be recorded straight to your hard drive.

Included Software
Behringer has put together a massive software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You're ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

Great price, exceptional quality, home studio ready.

Currently using in my home studio, great upgrade from my old Tascam. Huge improvement in latency reduction while moving some compression and EQ features to the mixer, freeing up CPU cycles and memory for actual processing the mix. Great plans for stage/live use in mind...

Nice mixer with a horrible power connector

FEATURES: This product function is ideal for my use -- and I'm only using a small fraction of its capabilities. It has plenty of gain and control with very low noise, and the USB installation was effortless and flawless. It therefore fits my needs excellently. QUALITY AND RELIABILITY: Unfortunately, Behringer uses a mini-Din connector for power (from the power adapter to the back of the mixer), which has no mechanical retention whatsoever (unlike many other connectors they could have chosen). Therefore a small giggle from the very stiff power cord causes loss of power & crackles. I cannot imagine how this product would be acceptable for gigging (not my use) but is OK in a completely static environment. Guitar Center did a FANTASTIC job of shipping me a 2nd unit, which did work a little better -- so I'm exceptionally pleased with this my first purchase from Guitar Center. However, based on this experience I would not recommend any Behringer mixer product (and probablyl not Mackie, who also uses a Din-type connector) if a different competitive offering would fit your needs.

Hybrid On-line meetings. Since it is so easy to connect to the computer, other interfacing projects will be attempted.

Purchased specifically for on-line hybrid meetings. Clearly simple for other configurations.

  • A poorly-designed mixer that should have never been released

I recently sent an email to Guitar Center to let them know how horrible this mixer is. I'm a former broadcast, production and audio engineer and needed a mixer at home with USB to record an audio book. I selected this mixer specifically because it was simple and had phantom power for a condenser microphone. From the start, the DIN power plug wanted to fall out. Then there was the low, 60Hz buzz that I couldn't quite isolate the source. But the worst was what sounded like a loss of power on words that start with the "whu" sound, like "one." I describe it as a "fuzzy dropout." It got to the point where I was tired of trying to edit out these problems and started looking at other mixer options. Then by accident I discovered in a forum post that the phantom power provided by this mixer is ONLY 15V! What the...??? The industry standard is 48V and what most decent-quality condenser microphones are designed for. It explained the problem exactly in what I was hearing with the fuzzy dropouts. Purchased an Alesis MultiMix 4 USB mixer which has proven so far to be a substantially higher quality mixer for only a few dollars more than the cost of the 502USB. Dead quiet open-mic audio output, better quality power connector, switches for both main and phantom power, and the list goes on. It doesn't have an adjustable clipping function, but it seems to clamp peaks very well inherently. The clipping adjustment on the Behringer never seemed to work properly. The 502USB is a mixer that should have NEVER been released to the market. It is, without question, an inferior product. The next product up in the Behringer line is the 802USB. On the front panel it shows "+48 V" for phantom power. The 502USB simply shows "Phantom" and there's nothing about the non-standard phantom power voltage in the description. It's been more than 90 days since I purchased this mixer so it's likely my money's been wasted. Save yourself the grief and go with a better brand.

Haven't gotten to sue it yet because the power adapter cord broke before I could even plug it in.

Use this for live streams, very easy to set up and use. Sounds great for the price. My only complaint is that the power has slipped out quite easily. Luckily not during use, just when moving it.
