I purchased Behringer's U-Control UCA222 USB Audio Interface to convert our church's audio cassettes to CDs.
The USB interface was perfect for plugging into the front of the computer; the computer quickly installed the correct drivers.
I had to purchase a stero 1/8 inch to dual RCA cable. Then, using Audacity software, it comes with the purchase of the UCA222, I was able to convert several cassette tapes into CDs. You can monitor the audio with the headphone jack too. That's it really helpful. It does what it needs to do at a reasonable price.
Bought mine to convert line level output from my Mini-Disc to USB (iTunes library). With XP, the drivers installed automatically and worked without restarting.
I connected the Toslink output to my Amphony wireless headphone input to monitor and it sounds clean and clear. I'm monitoring the audio digitally as its recording into QuickTime Pro at the same time.
After I get done dubbing over all 75 mini-discs, selling the transport and discs will more than pay for the transfer hardware.
Basically acting as a sound card with lots of bells and whistles, the USB interface is simple to use, truly low latency and excellent sound quality. I purchased the interface because the normal microphone input to my laptop was noisy and I didn't like having to filter out the noise after the recording was made. The Behringer USB interface has no detectable noise and the sampling rate produces excellent sound quality.
The accompanying software is an excellent bargain and provides most any imaginable tool for music creation and recording. Overall, top quality and superb value for the dollar.
