American Audio VMS4.1 MIDI Controller

Description
Upgrades from it's predecessor include entirely new internal hardware, quadruple the output, a bigger power supply, LEDs on the knobs and buttons that are brighter so it's easier to use in dark club environments, a more stout facer mounting, and, most importantly, even better sound quality, especially the mic sound, quality, and output. The VMS.1's more linear EQ design works better with Traktor software (sold separately), and it has advanced cell phone interface shielding so you don't have to worry about unexpected performance issues in the middle of a gig. The VMS4.1 was also built with American Audio's unique D Core processing so it is faster and smoother than their earlier products.

For the Dorm Room DJ

PROs: Solid build over-all, 4 channels, works well with VDJ, reasonable features, stand-alone mixer, compact but not overly crowded layout. CONs: Sound quality isn't so great, MICs are totally unuseable (They offer an adapter, which never showed up), platters have poor feel and response, the effects section needs to be completely redone, the buttons seem to get stuck pretty often. OVERALL Use in your dorm room only. The extra channels would allow you to run your iPod, TV, or whatever else through one mixer. It would be acceptable for practicing as well... I guess. Honestly though, I would pass. There are better options out there within $100 of the price including: Numark N4, DDJ Ergo, Vestax VCI series, but personally I would hold off for an NS6, NS7 (if you want vinyl), or one of the DDJs. The difference is remarkable.
