Overview

Don't let its size fool you. The H1 Handy Recorder has Zoom's renowned recording technology and studio-quality microphones in their easiest, most portable device ever.

Now Zoom recording technology is available to everyone. And with an infinite variety of applications, you'll want to take your H1 everywhere. From musical performances, songwriting sessions and rehearsals to seminars, conferences, journalism or capturing audio for video, the H1 gives you clean, clear stereo sound effortlessly.

What sets Zoom apart?
Like all Zoom recorders, the H1's onboard microphones are configured in an X/Y pattern, for stunning stereo imaging. Because both mics are arranged on the same axis, they are equidistant from the sound source for perfect localization and no phase shifting. The result is great stereo recordings with natural depth and accurate imaging.

Under your thumb
With its newly designed user interface, the H1 is also Zoom's easiest recorder to use. All its functions are at your fingertips, such as track marker, auto record, low cut filter, level and volume controls with on-board buttons No menus required.

Intuitive controls make it easy to capture the audio you need with ease. But Zoom still provides the versatility you've come to expect. So you get total recording format flexibility from 16-bit/44.1 kHz to 24-bit/96 kHz WAV, or MP3 from 48 kbps to 320 kbps and enough tools onboard to make impeccable recordings.

Everything you need to get started recording is included. Your H1 comes with an AA battery for 10 hours of operation and a 2 GB microSD card.

In addition, an H1 accessory package (APH-1) is also available (see sku # H70260) with an array of accessories that make your recordings even more pristine and easier to capture. The accessory kit includes a windscreen, AC adapter (USB type), USB cable, adjustable tripod stand, padded-shell case and a mic clip adapter.

Combining powerful recording capability with elegance and simplicity, the H1 Handy Recorder is our smallest, most affordable recorder ever.

Needed something to record our band's practice. Liked the color and sale price. I was surprised by the recorder's small size. Glad I bought the accessory kit with the tripod. Set it on top of one of the PA speakers w/tripod at practice and it works great. Tends to loose higher bass notes, but I think that is a placement problem. Real test was a Saturday night gig at a noisy bar. Taped it on top of the AC/Heater control box on a column, 10 feet away, facing the stage. Turned it on and picked it up later. The sound through my stereo was great. Every instrument was clear. Cut a CD on my home computer and may even use a few songs for audition purposes. I found that setting your own record level rather than using "Auto" works best for live recording. Easy to use and I'm glad it will take a 32G SD card. Very happy with its performance.

After consistently using for two years this handy recorder and always had it in one pocket of my purse, the speakers felt apart. Now I bought another and I have it in the handy recorder case. Excellent product.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Red Special Edition:

I listened to a couple other products via recordings posted on YouTube and found the Zoom to sound excellent. After doing my first session with it of a live Blues band outdoors, I was not disappointed. Of course, I did some quick post processing (EQ, stereo widening, compression, and limiter) to make the recording shine a bit more. But the raw audio itself sounded fantastic. No distortion, low background noise, clear audio. I'm very happy with this purchase so far.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Red Special Edition:

Probably my 5 year old can use it. Record, playback, delete or transfer and store in your computer. The microphones aren't toys, they capture sound beautifully without noise. Incredibly handy, so you can take it anywhere. Bottomline : I can capture my fleeting ideas, and set them in stone (micro-sc) with a beautiful sound. Those who engineered the zoom had the user in mind. The result is too good to be true.

Comments about H1 Handy Recorder Red Special Edition:

I bought this to record band practices. I was skeptical about the sound quality, and researched reviews on several sites. Basically, for the price, this thing is awesome. Some tips: don't mess with the auto input level -- just set it yourself. Go ahead any buy the accessory kit -- the tripod and USB cable are very useful. The recording I made picked up everything in the room cleanly and clearly -- so clean and clear that it's a humbling experience for an amateur musician.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Red Special Edition:

This is a cool little device. Even a technophobe like myself can use it. I simply record voice and guitar in my kitchen with it, and it works great for that. It's very clear on playback, even with my cheapo headset. The only drawback is you have to plug in a headset to hear it. This is disappointing, as I thought I could just set it up on the table so a few people could listen at once. Not the case. Hence the limited functions comment. Other than that, the product description is accurate. Some folks may find the accessory kit very useful. I may purchase one in the future. I've done no editing with it, or even transferred files, so I don't know how that would work. Battery life seems good with the supplied battery. I've recorded 20 short songs so far, and there's plenty of space left on the micro sd card. I bought this on sale and think it's a great value. All in all I consider this a great entry level recorder and am pleased with the results.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Red Special Edition:

I bought the H1 to record at home. I wanted a recorder that had good sound quality. A friend has one and I was impressed. They went on sale and I bought one. The recording and playback quality is very good. I am not a tech guy, but I found the H1 easy to use with just a little trial and error. I play back thru my amp and I am very pleased. I burned a cd from the s/d card and I was blown away by the quality of the sound. Don't be hesitant by the price or the size. This thing does a great job.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Red Special Edition:

This little recorder is small and light and handy, runs for a long time on a single AA battery, and sounds pretty good. Clear and crisp with no distortion. It's perfect for band practice or small room situations, or any time you need to get a good quality clip away from the studio. Frankly the included "Lite" versions of the fixing and shaping applications that come with it tend to be a bit intrusive when it comes to having to register to download them, but nearly everyone does that these days. The problem is that they aren't as good as the open source software out there, like Audacity. That's not a drawback, just a challenge for the companies that make them. My one real complaint is that there are too many functions combined into a single control so you have to pay attention to the display and not do things blindly, Otherwise it's really handy and does the job very nicely.
