Does what its supposed to do.
Was reluctant to buy this because of negative reviews about stripping screws. I needed something to mount a Yamaha 8 x 12 Stage Custom birch tom to my bass drum. After purchasing / using I've deduced if you use this as intended (and with reasonable torquing) you shouldn't have issues with stripping screws. I only returned mine because I needed a long post (versus this short one) and short hex rod. Bought the longer version, and works fine. Also I leave it set as-is when I tear down my kit. So I don't repeatedly loosen and torque the large adjustment screw. But even so, its neither flimsy nor cheaply made. That said, I prefer the Pearl Opti-Mount for isolation and solidity, and originally had the 8 x 12 mounted with one. However, to cut cost, Yamaha Stage Custom birch drums have a 1-screw lug with shorter than average tension screws. IMO there's not enough room between the top of the lug and the bottom of the metal rim of the head to ensure not touching the rubber boots in the lug brackets of the Opti-Mount. Didn't want anything to potentially affect / alter tuning.

Use caution when ordering
I bought these to mount a couple of Yamaha Electronic pads. I did not know that the hex rod on this version is REALLY short!! I should have kept looking and purchased the one with the longer hex rod..It is barely long enough to make contact with the internal clamp on the pad. I would return, but by the time I pay for return shipping and the charge for the original shipping, I might as well just keep them for back up

What is the diameter of the rod that attaches to the bass drum?
I’m very sorry, the manufacturer has not made that information available. . This is a proprietary piece, designed to fit Yamaha's YESS (Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System) mounting system.submitted3 years ago
