Overview

The TRBX304 is built around a simple principle - your performance. The perfectly balanced, ultra-comfortable solid mahogany body provides the optimum tonal foundation while the Performance EQ active circuitry gives instant access to perfectly dialed-in stage-ready tones coupled with the expressive control you need.

TRBX features a sculpted solid mahogany body, with a mass-optimized 3D design for the optimum balance between tone and comfort coupled with perfect weight distribution. The neck design combines a fast, ultra-comfortable profile with 5-pc maple/mahogany laminated construction for outstanding stability and excellent tone. It uses a precision fitted bolt-on neck joint for maximum adjustability and clear, punchy tone. Developed through hundreds of hours of play-testing, the refined neck joint shape perfectly balances strength, vibration transfer and upper-fret access.

YGD designed M3 pickups feature oversized polepieces and ceramic magnets for a clear, powerful tone with incredible definition and depth. The hum-cancelling design ensures your performance clean and noise-free while the integral thumb-rest provides unrivalled playability.

TRBX304 boasts Yamaha's exclusive Perfomance EQ active circuit with five performance-tuned full spectrum EQ curves optimized to give instant access to essential sounds along with powerful 2-band master equalization to shape and define your tone.

A high-mass die-cast bridge efficiently transfers string vibrations to the body for full, rich tone combined with excellent adjustability and road-tested durability.

19mm string spacing offers outstanding playability for technical slap or finger styles. Straight string pull from nut to machine head eliminates lateral tension, providing superior tuning stability and reducing overtones. 38mm nut width gives fast, comfortable playability for any style.

Yamaha's metal plate-mounted standard jack socket offers superior durability and easy maintenance.

First, I like the clean, smooth look of this bass. It's a Yamaha, so quality is obvious. I picked it up at Guitar Center in Columbus, OH. James was very helpful, and not at all pushy about making the sale. I was looking at 2 or 3 different basses. James took the time to let me try them, made a few comparison comments, and let me decide for myself. I have a B.C. Rich bass, but was looking for an additional bass, and a shorter scale. This Yamaha has the Performance EQ, so obtaining different sounds, and adapting to different playing styles was a nice plus. The balance control for the pickups is a nice feature, too. For me, the neck is extremely comfortable and fast. The fret board is laid out very nice for me. I have pretty long fingers. I really like the feel and fingering of this neck and fret board. This guitar also weighs less than my B.C. Rich--honestly, more comfortable when I play for an hour or more. Overall, this bass is just what I was looking for. I'm an intermediate player, and I would recommend this bass for a beginner, or intermediate player. If you're a beginner, this is a great bass to start with. It'll take you a long way, and you won't have to buy 2 or 3 guitars as you progress and climb the experience ladder. If you're intermediate, this guitar will fill all your needs. This is truly a fantastic bass guitar, and the price is worth every penny for the quality, look, performance and sound.

I wanted to choose this bass of of three that I had researched. It feels GREAT, especially for a smaller guy like me. It has an amazing display of controls, a fast neck, and the thumbrest built into the pickup gives added playability. Despite this, once I plugged it into a nice Ampeg, the sound was just..... not what I'd consider a GOOD bass sound. I like deep, rich, vintage boom, and this thing was not capable of it, no matter what I tried. Granted, the salesman I had knew nothing about basses - and he was the only one I could find - typical of GC... but I plugged in the Squier Vintage Mod Jazz 70's and it BOOMED- same amp... an the Sterling SUB Ray4... that one won out by a landslide. Sometimes the electronics with more frills are just too much for a nice, simple GOOD bass tone.

Amazing Sound

Comments about Yamaha TRBX304 4-String Electric Bass:

This has a great sound and very comfortable and light. The neck is small and quick and action is low just the way I like it. The 5 position preset eq is an added plus when playing a variety of genres. I'm in awe of the full crisp slap sound that emanates from this bass in the eq slap position. My other favorite is the deep low end sound of the finger position. I would recommend anyone looking for a well put together and balance bass to buy the Yamaha TRBX304.

Right Start

By Joe

Comments about Yamaha TRBX304 4-String Electric Bass:

I went into my local GC to grab myself something inexpensive to get back into playing on a regular basis. Through talking with the reps, I got this pointed out to try on for size. I had been playing a jazz bass shape for 7 years prior to needing a new guitar. I really like the shape and style of the body. The neck is flat on the back and the action is fairly low out of the box. The tone selector is nice if you want to flip back and forth between styles without changing your bridge and manual EQ. Though some of the presets are not much different from each other, it is a feature that does get used quite a bit. I mostly use it for seeing some quick changes in a riff with running it through the different settings. Overall, I believe this is a great bass for players toward the intermediate level (or those like me who don't have the money for a 1k bass). This carries enough features to really build up your sound and know what you are looking in higher end purchases. TLDR; Pros: weight, shape, versatility, speed, easy intro to other basses, lot of bass for the buck. Cons: low-mid level pickups, mix wood neck, bridge seems a little cheap.

I love the Yamaha Bass guitar and the color is fantastic, goes with the rest of my red performance outfit. The guitar is lighter and the neck is smaller than my Fender. The extra settings on the toggle switch help when changing the sounds as well. I would recommend this Bass to anyone.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX304 4-String Electric Bass:

I have other, more expensive basses. Rarely do the bands I play with notice a difference in my gear (probably like most of us that call in the thunder) that is, until I played this one. They all liked this one much better and actually prefer me to play/use this over my other basses. That should tell you something.

It is very comfortable to play, I LOVE te neck. It's got a sleek, smooth and modern look, it's lightweight and absolutely rips once it's set up. The 5 way EQ switch is interesting, I'm kinda indifferent on it so far as I think it's something that takes time to decide if you really like it, but for quick on the fly settings it works and sounds great with a modern, active tone.

Perfect for gigging, or a road bass as they are inexpensive (not cheap!) So you don't feel bad about throwing it around and/or having someone knock over a $1,000 + bass. I'm highly considering the 5 string version.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX304 4-String Electric Bass:

I picked this bass up about 2 years ago now, and It has been my #1 ever since. I would definitely recommend this to a novice bass player (probably not the best for an absolute beginner) It has a very easy to shape tone and the 5 way channels are very versatile. Yamaha, producing quality again. It is light on stage and have had no problems preforming with it. 10/10 would recommend.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX304 4-String Electric Bass:

I'm an experienced guitar player. This is my first bass. So far so good. It's a nice playing instrument, I don't know if the string buzz is because I'm not always fretting accurately and that will get better with time? That seems to be the case. I like how the bass comes with a little clear plastic insert that tells you clearly what the various knobs do, and what style of playing the various pickup settings are used for. I imagine you can develop preferences that deviate from those recommendations, but for a beginner I think it's very thoughtful on Yamaha's part to include. Really pretty bass. I like it.

It is a incredible bass! I bought this as a back up bass, but I play it is my main bass now. I have a Sterling by Music Man S.U.B. Ray4 which was my main and I love, but I like the Yamaha better. It is more light weight, looks great, sounds great, and the Performance EQ active circuit with five performance-tuned full spectrum EQ curves is Awesome! You will love it!

Comments about Yamaha TRBX304 4-String Electric Bass:

I've owned this instrument for going on seven months. Possibly the most beautiful bass I've ever owned; wherever I play I'm complimented on its jewel-like stunning candy apple red finish. Combined with a superior active EQ system, it's a beauty AND a beast. Great variety of styles through a 5-way switch that actually works! Nicely finished, high-quality rosewood fretboard with a satin neck, a bit on the thin side. Currently it's suffering the dreaded winter season's sharp fret ends, but it's only slight. A feature I appreciate (especially after 4-hour gigs) is the body wood, which is substantial enough, but somehow made lighter, I guess by "chamfering" which is what I call tapering, because it's not chambered. Somewhat beefier bridge than a Fender Std American J-Bass, perfectly aligned to center strings directly over the pole pieces. Easy access to the truss rod. The bass could have benefited from a better nut, but it's serviceable. Pups are designed with a scooped out slot as a thumb rest, which I notice other musicians find beneficial (but I don't, depends on how you prefer to rest your thumb). I often use this for practice/rehearsing and sometimes for gigs when I don't want to risk losing or damaging my G&L Kiloton. This really is the only bass I'd consider gigging with full-time at the price--it's that good.
