collapse expand iconDescription

The TRBX304 is built around a simple principle - your performance. The perfectly balanced, ultra-comfortable solid mahogany body provides the optimum tonal foundation while the Performance EQ active circuitry gives instant access to perfectly dialed-in stage-ready tones coupled with the expressive control you need.

TRBX features a sculpted solid mahogany body, with a mass-optimized 3D design for the optimum balance between tone and comfort coupled with perfect weight distribution. The neck design combines a fast, ultra-comfortable profile with 5-pc maple/mahogany laminated construction for outstanding stability and excellent tone. It uses a precision fitted bolt-on neck joint for maximum adjustability and clear, punchy tone. Developed through hundreds of hours of play-testing, the refined neck joint shape perfectly balances strength, vibration transfer and upper-fret access.

YGD designed M3 pickups feature oversized polepieces and ceramic magnets for a clear, powerful tone with incredible definition and depth. The hum-cancelling design ensures your performance clean and noise-free while the integral thumb-rest provides unrivalled playability.

TRBX304 boasts Yamaha's exclusive Perfomance EQ active circuit with five performance-tuned full spectrum EQ curves optimized to give instant access to essential sounds along with powerful 2-band master equalization to shape and define your tone.

A high-mass die-cast bridge efficiently transfers string vibrations to the body for full, rich tone combined with excellent adjustability and road-tested durability.

19mm string spacing offers outstanding playability for technical slap or finger styles. Straight string pull from nut to machine head eliminates lateral tension, providing superior tuning stability and reducing overtones. 38mm nut width gives fast, comfortable playability for any style.

Yamaha's metal plate-mounted standard jack socket offers superior durability and easy maintenance.

This bass is perfect for me!

First, I like the clean, smooth look of this bass. It's a Yamaha, so quality is obvious. I picked it up at Guitar Center in Columbus, OH. James was very helpful, and not at all pushy about making the sale. I was looking at 2 or 3 different basses. James took the time to let me try them, made a few comparison comments, and let me decide for myself. I have a B.C. Rich bass, but was looking for an additional bass, and a shorter scale. This Yamaha has the Performance EQ, so obtaining different sounds, and adapting to different playing styles was a nice plus. The balance control for the pickups is a nice feature, too. For me, the neck is extremely comfortable and fast. The fret board is laid out very nice for me. I have pretty long fingers. I really like the feel and fingering of this neck and fret board. This guitar also weighs less than my B.C. Rich--honestly, more comfortable when I play for an hour or more. Overall, this bass is just what I was looking for. I'm an intermediate player, and I would recommend this bass for a beginner, or intermediate player. If you're a beginner, this is a great bass to start with. It'll take you a long way, and you won't have to buy 2 or 3 guitars as you progress and climb the experience ladder. If you're intermediate, this guitar will fill all your needs. This is truly a fantastic bass guitar, and the price is worth every penny for the quality, look, performance and sound.

Disappointing sound

I wanted to choose this bass of of three that I had researched. It feels GREAT, especially for a smaller guy like me. It has an amazing display of controls, a fast neck, and the thumbrest built into the pickup gives added playability. Despite this, once I plugged it into a nice Ampeg, the sound was just..... not what I'd consider a GOOD bass sound. I like deep, rich, vintage boom, and this thing was not capable of it, no matter what I tried. Granted, the salesman I had knew nothing about basses - and he was the only one I could find - typical of GC... but I plugged in the Squier Vintage Mod Jazz 70's and it BOOMED- same amp... an the Sterling SUB Ray4... that one won out by a landslide. Sometimes the electronics with more frills are just too much for a nice, simple GOOD bass tone.

For someone who's never played an instrument before I'm glad that I chose this instrument to start with. For years I've been wanting to play the bass guitar and now I finally have one. With much research I needed up choosing this Yamaha TRBX304 and I'm loving it. Now it's time to take it to the top!!

  • Great Bass for the price.

For reasons I can't really explain or understand, this bass "feels better" and is easier to play than other basses. The selectable "voices" provide a lot of fun variations to the sound (you can achieve similar effects by adjusting settings and/or using pedals, but this allows you to jump from one variation to another and back again without re-balancing everything). One very slight caution is that there was some "clatter" with the provided strings. It improved when I put my preferred, heavier strings on, Not a big deal, but I was surprised it wasn't more playable right out of the box as other basses have been. And since this will likely be purchased by beginners, they should be prepared to make some neck adjustments.

I am a senior citizen & play bass for myself in my own privacy. I have had other basses & have one more other than this one. This thing is beautiful. It is light weight & has a slender neck making it very easy to play. I love the 5-position selector switch which gives different sounds. Musician's Friend shipped it right away & it was in my hands within a few days. Did I say it is beautiful ? I love the Yamaha basses.

This was my first bass. Tried spending slightly more than the cheapest in hopes it'd be better. Haven't played on a worse instrument so I don't know how it compares to those. Obviously it sucks compared to basses 2-3 times the price, but this will do a beginner well. The active electronics are really helpful for tone shaping and having two humbuckers at this price point is pretty nice for budding metalheads. Output runs really loud though, and not necessarily in a good way. Not my favorite pickups, but its not like i'd be able to tell the difference when i bought it.

I can't seem to get sound. My amp is fine, my other bass works with it. I have never had active pickups before. I inserted the battery but is there anything else I am supposed to do? There is not sound.

Best case scenario would be mid - June. However Yamaha is dealing with the world situation like everyone else. ETAs should not be relied on.
