Overview

The P-125 digital piano carries on the tradition of the best-selling P-Series, with even more user-friendly features and improved sound quality. Available in black or white finishes, the P-125 delivers Yamaha piano touch and tone in a compact design and is ideal for home, home-studio or stage use. The P-125 is an 88-key graded hammer action piano with a complement of common sounds including multiple grand piano voices, electric pianos from an authentic Rhodes to an FM-style piano, clavinet, strings, vibes and more. You can split and layer sounds, and enjoy the output from its high-quality built-in speakers or patch the output into a larger amplification system.

Realistic Piano Tones
Yamaha's Pure CF Sound Engine results from years of piano-making history combined with state-of-the-art sampling technology and expertise. Yamaha is one of the industry's leaders in digital piano technology, and you can hear why in the sound of their digital pianos that utilize the Pure CF piano sample. The P-125 includes the sound of Yamaha's renowned CFIIIS 9' concert grand piano and is faithfully reproduced, allowing for incredible dynamics and expressiveness making Pure CF-equipped digital pianos worthy of the Yamaha name.

Acoustic Properties
String Resonance recreates the sympathetic sounds of other strings resonating, just like the behavior of acoustic pianos. Damper Resonance DSP recreates the sound of the inside of a grand piano when the dampers are off the strings. Key-off samples deliver the delicate change in sound the instant the damper falls back to the string.

Authentic To The Touch
Yamaha's GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) weighted action has heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end, just like the hammers inside an acoustic piano. Great for the aspiring pianist, practicing on the GHS action builds the proper finger technique for when the time comes to perform on an acoustic piano. Plus, the matte finish makes the black keys are less slippery when playing for extended periods of time.

Enhanced Sound System
The tweeter position has been improved in the P-125 to be in line with the ears of the performer. Melody lines and treble passages are brighter and more expressive as a result. This new configuration ensures that the instrument sounds sparkle and come alive across the entire tonal range.

Immersive Sound
Stereophonic Optimizer adjusts the spatial distribution of sound in the listener's headphones, creating the sensation that sound is coming directly from the piano, rather than from the headphones.

Comments about Yamaha P-125 Digital Piano:

First of all, this is not meant to compete with something like a Kawai ES8 or even Yamaha P255 or forthcoming P515. Its function should be a 25 pound portable piano that is easy to lift and move and travel with. There are going to be some compromises but in my opinion this is a great value.
It uses Yamaha's GHS action- this one is fine- it doesn't feel bad to play . However, it won't be as realistic as some of the more expensive items.
They did a nice job with the speaker system- its clear- the left hand notes are thick sounding which is good for rock. They added a 4th layer to the sound- I don't think it varies as dynamically as the ES-110 but overall it is louder and a thicker sound which is what I need.
Quality seems good- there is a way on the bottom of the piano to grip it which is decent.
I would probably prefer if they could fit GH action in this weight range but in my opinion it wasn't overall a huge or if any dropoff in sound from the P-255 (note I also will use an external speaker).
My conclusion is - it holds its own and is excellent if you are looking in the $600-$700 25 pound class (along with FP-30, Casio PX-160, Kawai ES-100 etc).
If you are looking for a piano that is going to just stay in your home I would then urge to consider the P-255. This P-125 will be a piano I can travel with and sound good playing- that was the main 2 important points.

Comments about Yamaha P-125 Digital Piano:

I'm a guitar player that has always had some type of synth board around that I use for recording keyboard parts never owned an acoustic piano. Having said that I wanted a digital piano so that I could get the feel of a real piano and still have a board I could use as a midi trigger and this unit more than fulfilled those requirements. As a stand-alone unit this thing is amazing to play and a joy to listen to. It really is like playing a fine acoustic piano and the sound appears to come from all around you. So you can get all the technical details from other reviews but I'll just say that the touch sensitivity, craftsmanship, and tonal quality are of the highest. In the sense that a beautifully crafted acoustic guitar can enhance your ability and desire to play the P-125 has made a piano player out of me.
