Its solid mahogany body topped with exotic mango veneer delivers balanced resonance with standout visual appeal, while the bolt-on maple neck and sonokeling fingerboard provide a fast, comfortable playing surface. A versatile P/J pickup configuration expands the tonal palette from thick foundational lows to articulate, cutting highs, and vintage-style bridge hardware keeps tuning and intonation stable through long sessions. Designed for dependable feel and flexible tone shaping, the TRBX174EW is built to support practice, recording and live performance with equal confidence.

Exotic Mango Veneer and Mahogany Body for Balanced Tone

Built around a solid mahogany body with an exotic mango wood veneer, this Yamaha bass delivers a focused low end with clear midrange presence while offering distinctive visual character. The tonewood pairing supports a balanced response that sits comfortably in modern mixes, whether you’re laying down foundational grooves or more melodic bass lines. The eye-catching top adds stage-ready appeal without sacrificing the reliable resonance players expect from Yamaha’s TRBX platform.

Fast Maple Neck and Comfortable Sonokeling Fingerboard

The TRBX174EW features a smooth bolt-on maple neck paired with a sonokeling fingerboard, creating a responsive feel suited for both fingerstyle and pick players. A 34" scale length maintains familiar string tension, while the 10" radius and 40 mm nut width provide comfortable spacing for fluid movement across the neck. Together, these elements give the instrument an approachable, fast-playing character that supports developing technique and confident live performance.

P/J Pickup Configuration Delivers Wide Tonal Range

Equipped with a split-coil Precision-style pickup and a single-coil Jazz-style pickup, this electric bass offers impressive tonal flexibility. Players can blend pickups to move from thick, supportive low-end punch to more defined, articulate attack depending on the musical context. With master volume, pickup blend and tone controls onboard, the TRBX174EW makes it easy to shape a sound that fits everything from rehearsal rooms to live stages.

Reliable Hardware for Consistent Performance

Chrome-covered tuners and a vintage-style bridge provide stable tuning and dependable intonation, reinforcing the TRBX174EW’s road-ready design. The solid construction is built to handle regular practice, rehearsals and gigging without fuss, making it a dependable choice for players who need consistency from session to session. For bassists seeking modern playability, versatile tone and standout looks in a value-focused package, this Yamaha model delivers a confident foundation.

I have Yamaha RBX270J and I love. It decided to upgrade to this model because it is mahogany and has better tuners. What a disappointment. First good: It has good sound. Electronics are simple and solid. Pickups are not Duncan or EMG quality but for this price they are great. It is comfortable. Now the bad part: 1. Fret buzz. 1-3rd fret on G string. Buzzes on sustain. Badly. 8-16th fret on A string. Buzzes on sustain. 2. SHARP FRETS. The fret edges on the G string side feel a bit like barbed wire. Nothing that sandpaper can't cure but it should NOT be on a new project. This is not a deal breaker but it shouldn't be there. The bass is going back. I am utterly disappointed in Yamaha, compare to the old RBX270J that I have, this is utter garbage. It is going back and my RBX270J is getting a set of Area J pickups instead.

Very nice bass guitar for the price! It's the first bass I've ever owned. I never played the bass before; & I didn't want to spend a lot of dollars for a first bass guitar. All in all, a very good buy!
