Comments about Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar:

I play this at my office during lunch time. It is quiet enough to play, get good tone and not bother others. I was surprised at the good sound for a lower end guitar. I did look at a video showing how Yamaha guitars are built in China and it showed good quality control. Well worth the price.

Comments about Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar:

To the first time guitar buyer I say: If your interest is in country, folk or any contemporary music you would be better served by one of Yamaha's steel stringed acoustic guitars.

My string action gauge tells me that right out of the box the guitar was set up close to perfect. There is marginal room for improvement in both the string action at the bridge and the intonation. In my opinion it is so close that it isn't worth paying a luthier even a modest fee to the make adjustments. Just to make it clear, string action at the nut and relief in the neck were perfect.

I'd have liked to have seen more fret marks than just the one for the 7th fret on the side of the neck. In the long run it is irrelevant.

Other than that fit, finish, tone, and playability are all one could ask for.

The Gigmaker Package is a very cost effective purchase. The gig bag is very nice, though I bought a hard case as getting the guitar in and out of the bag is cumbersome and in daily use repeated in and out of the bag will likely result in scratching the finish or snagging a string on the zipper. The DVD is a valuable learning resource and introduction to guitar inspite of not at all having anything directly related to classical guitars. It is much better suited for acoustic and electric. The tuner is functional and comes with the plus that it tells you which E, A, D, G, or B you're tuning too, but I don't use it because the spring for the clamp is irritatingly stiff when I go to mount it on the headstock. I keep it as a spare.

All and all a great value and a good guitar. I'd give the guitar 4.9 stars and the package 4.5 stars.

      Great Guitar!

      By melvyn drag

      from holmdel, nj

Comments about Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar:

I'm 28 years old and just learning guitar, so I'm no expert. I bought this and then went on amazon and got the Noad classical guitar book. For about 150 bucks total and six months investment I can now play the beginning bit of Moonlight sonata, the Last of Us video game theme, and the exercises in the first four chapters of the Noad book with reasonable proficiency that impresses my friends. I've spent more than that on one date. If the guitar breaks tomorrow, I will gotten my money's worth. But I expect it will last me a long while, based on the other reviews.

Comments about Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar:

As a total novice aged 64 I purchased this Yamaha C40 after first trying one at my local guitar center, I found the nut width at 2" along with the low profile neck and nylon strings combined to give me a more comfortable hand position, the smaller body also made for a far more relaxed seating position in a regular lounge chair. The guitar produces ample volume with pleasing tone, though the original strings I feel would be best replaced as they can produce some strange almost double notes!
Overall I am happy with my purchase, how could it be improved? I must admit I miss the dot markers in the frets

I was surprised at how clean and finished this guitar is for 140$. Then again I'm not surprised. This is what Yamaha does best.

Comments about Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar:

This is a good beginner classics guitar with nice action. There have been some issues with string vibration on frets when playing without capo but well worth the investment to teach proper placement and finger picking. Produces a warm and responsive sound.

              High Quality budget classical guitar!

              By Armand

              from undisclosed

              Verified Buyer

Comments about Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar:

I have an electric and a steel string acoustic. This is my first classical guitar and it's been a bunch of fun. Like all classical guitars, the neck is wider, it has nylon strings, and it provides a warmer tone.

The strings they provide are normal tension which is great for classical playing. However if you are more interested in spanish/flamenco style play, invest in some high tension strings. These will have more attack and are a bit stiffer.

Other than that, this is a great guitar for the budget for any skill level.
