Overview

The VOX MINI5 Rhythm offers 11 amp sounds inherited from the popular and acclaimed Valvetronix Series, plus eight effects and a new rhythm function. You can choose from 99 different variations of rhythm patterns to back your performance or practice along to. The compact body also packs plenty of additional functionality such as a mic input, AUX input, and a dedicated E-string tuner, letting you play your guitar with the high quality tone you'd expect from VOX.

A rich variety of amp models and effects
There are 11 realistic amp models taken from the flagship Valvetronix Series that support a broad range of styles and playing techniques, including perfect simulations of the legendary VOX AC30 that capture the sense of drive typical of vacuum tubes, as well as models of intensely powerful high-gain amps and transparent, clean types. New to the series is a built-in VOX original "Bassilator" circuit, which covers the ultra-low-frequency overtones that cannot be obtained via EQ. This is particularly effective for high-gain models and produces an intensely heavy sound that seems unthinkable from an amp of this size. In addition, there's a pure and clean-sounding LINE input without any distortion, making it an ideal choice for acoustic-electric guitars or keyboards. There's also a full complement of effects, including compressor, chorus, flanger, and tremolo, as well as delay/reverb types. With a total of eight varieties of effects, you'll have plenty of options for shaping your sound.

Versatile rhythm functions
As its name suggests, the MINI5 Rhythm features a newly added rhythm function. It provides 11 built-in rhythms in styles that include 8-beat, 16-beat, rock, metal, and R&B, as well as a built-in metronome. With nine variations for each style, you'll have a generous 99 rhythm patterns to work with. You can easily call up the rhythm pattern you want and adjust its tempo and volume for a great way to jam along with high-quality rhythm patterns, to try out ideas for a new riff or phrase, or to practice playing to a beat to improve your performances. Since these rhythm patterns cover a wide range of musical styles, it is easier to get into the feel of the song being played, making otherwise routine personal practice sessions more enjoyable.

Battery-powered operation
The MINI5 Rhythm features two-way power that can run on batteries (six AA batteries) or an AC adapter (included). Batteries allow up to approximately 19.5 hours of operation (with POWER SELECT set to 0.1W), making this amp an ideal choice for street performances or outdoor playing. It also comes with a carrying strap for easy transport, letting you enjoy playing guitar wherever inspiration may strike.

Plenty of input/output jacks, ideal for the singer/performer
In addition to a guitar input, the MINI5 Rhythm also provides additional types of input and output jacks. The mic input provides an adjustable volume and lets you apply a delay/reverb effect, providing support for vocals. There's also an AUX input that can accept an external audio source such as an MP3 player. It can be used in conjunction with a guitar and mic, for a total of three inputs simultaneously. Also provided is a headphone/line out jack with a built-in cabinet simulator so that when you're recording directly into a multi-track recorder or practicing with headphones, you can obtain the same great cabinet resonance you'd get if you had set up a mic in front of the amp.

Switchable power amp wattage
By switching the wattage, you can regulate the volume while still retaining the sense of drive and air obtained by turning the master volume all the way up. The wattage can be switched in three levels: 5 / 1.5 / 0.1W.

The VOX Mini 5 Rythem amp. does more for me than any amp. I've ever heard of let alone owned. It lets me plug in my Yamaha CM500 head set into the mic. channel and headphone jack for great vocals with my choice of several reverb and delay options with or without the headphones on one channel with seperate volume and reverb controls for that channel. Then it gives a modeling guitar amp, clean to strong over drive and many choices inbetween.Again, a sepreate volume and gain for the guitar channel. The cherry on top is the built in drums with its own volume and tempo control.I play guitar and sing with the drums and I can balance the sound, and its portable. Overall, this is a great little amp., but the 'double ivory' color scheme was briefly offered back in 2015 as a 'limited edition' item. Finally seeing this color scheme pictured again on Guitar Center's website, I placed the order. But surprisingly after opening the box, it's the same old 'regular ivory' model with the black corners/black metal grill that's been offered for the past three yrs. Did they suddenly change the picture on guitarcenter.com to intentionally mislead people? That's what I asked the GC customer service rep., but he just didn't seem to care. And then I called Korg, the manufacturer to confirm whether or not they've re-released these in 'double-ivory'. Nope! So this is a clear case of false advertising, and now I'll be making a special trip over there to return this item. But first I'm posting a review in order to save others the time and trouble.

Has a Mike input that Cube does not have. Lots of extras and three watt choices. Larger speaker and more modeling choices. A lot better practice amp for about the same money. Sound is very good.

Comments about Vox Mini5 Rhythm Modeling Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Pretty good for the money. Wish it had digital tempo read-out so you could sync the beat to drum machine or synth or whatever, but really not a deal breaker. The FX are good but not strong, and it seems to handle multiple inputs all going at once pretty well. It's basically just like the Vox DA5 but with the rhythm beats. The DA 5 is a full $100 cheaper, you can get them for $50 used, but the beats on the Mini5 are really useful for practicing time on your own or when you don't want to mess with an external drum machine. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that it should have digital tempo read out.

Rhythm feature is a great addition for practicing tempo. Much more fun than click track or metronome. Really enjoying using it!

Comments about Vox Mini5 Rhythm Modeling Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Frankly if it wouldn't look so ridiculous, I would probably use this amp on stage mic'd off into the PA system rather than lugging around my 75-pound AC30C2X. It has all the sound and guts of my AC 30 plus a host of other amps that I have either owned in the past or wished I had and have loved. It's wonderful in that it allows me to practice anytime anyplace no matter how small the room yet can fill up a larger area cranked up as loud as she can go and when even the .1w setting would be
disturbing to others the headphone jack cuts out the tiny but powerful 6.5" speaker and make my own ears ring without anybody else even knowing I'm playing. The mike, drum machine and effects features are great added touches and make this truly a very versatile mini combo modeling amp. If anything ever happens to this one I will waste no time in replacing it with another just like it except I might go for the British racing green next time. Just love that Grill cloth!

Comments about Vox Mini5 Rhythm Modeling Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Picked this up as a more mobile amp to keep in the living room or move out to the screen porch. Loaded up a set of batteries, but will likely use it with the power cord most of the time. If you don't need a battery amp, then just plug in.

Shopped around for a small amp that had built in drum beats that I could play over and this one really fits the bill. The thing I like about the drum beats in the Mini5 over some others is the ability to control the speed of the beats. Some backing tracks don't allow you to control the speed of the track. Allows you to slow everything down while you work out the song you're learning, and you can gradually speed back up as you get a handle on it.

Found several amps in the store and found the modeling tones to be really good for the size and cost. You can find amps that do a better job of realistic modeling, but not at this price. Great sounds for a small and affordable package and good volume for practicing at home. Controls are very simple to operate. I'm really happy with the purchase.

Great for a new kid to see if he sticks with it with easy controls. Sounds good for clean single coil and blues, but not good for somone wanting good high gain. Go with the cube for that, if you want this style of amp at this price range.

Comments about Vox Mini5 Rhythm Modeling Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Perfect for my purpose of a good practice amp. I use the drum patterns for meter and sing and play thru it at the same time. It's small, but sounds great for its size, but I keep it plugged up with my guitar and mic right next to my chair in our living room and use the headphones anytime I want to go over something or pick up a new tune. Mic and guitar channel have effects which is what finally sold me on this little amp. The only downside at all is the mic input is not xlr, but I have a mic cord that accommodates a 1/4" input. Nice package for even a small jam or coffee house etc. along with being a good practice amp. Been looking for something like this for a while.
