In VOX's history, there may never have been a series of amps boasting such a lofty and pure sound as the new Hand-Wired Series amps, which includes the AC30HW2 30W combo. The VOX Hand-Wired Series relies on the painstaking technique of turret board hand-wiring, a method requiring a high level of skill and craftsmanship. The result is wiring that's beautiful in its artistry and ensures an efficient signal path with minimal loss and no restriction in amplitude. In the AC30HW2 combo, tubes, transformers, speakers, chassis, and custom parts all join together in an ideal state to deliver the richest and most powerful sonic experience - the ultimate VOX amp. Not bound by tradition, the VOX Hand-Wired Series also provides a variety of new functions that keep pace with the needs of today's artists.

Constructed for ideal sound and power
Turret board hand-wired amps are every amp designer's ideal and every guitarist's dream, representing the ultimate in amplifier construction. Hand-wired amps are assembled entirely by hand, requiring staggering levels of technical expertise and care, and as such are often exclusive to today's limited productions or high-end models. The VOX Hand-Wired AC30HW2 combo pairs these demanding methods with rigorously-selected custom parts. These premium components are wired with a truly artistic degree of perfection. The result is that the subtle nuances of the guitarist's touch, the guitar's audio signature, and the natural character of the vacuum tubes are passed with perfect transparency to its 2 -12" Celestion G12M speakers, noted for their broad midrange attack and restrained top-end, providing a punchy attitude when chording, and a searing lead tone when driven hard.

True all-tube design - preamp, power amp, and rectifier
The VOX Hand-Wired AC30HW2 is a true all-tube amplifier, employing vacuum tubes in the preamp, power amp, and rectifier. The preamp uses three classic ECC83/12AX7 tubes, while the power stage uses a quartet of EL84s, along with a GZ34 rectifier tube. Combined, these three elements provide the vibrant, organic, and unmistakable tone that is the heart of the classic VOX sound.

Two-channel design: Top Boost and Normal
The VOX Hand-Wired AC30HW2 amp preserves the traditional VOX two-channel design, providing a Top Boost channel and a Normal channel. True to form, the Top Boost channel delivers the legendary AC30 sound with a fully interactive tone stack. VOX has also added a new and unique Hot/Cool switch. The Cool setting produces the orthodox Top Boost sound, while the Hot setting bypasses the tone circuitry altogether to create a more pure sound to achieve richer gain. A VFS1 footswitch is included with this VOX Hand-Wired Series amp, so you can quickly change between Cool and Hot, right at those moments when you need an extra dose of drive. The controls for the Normal channel consist simply of a volume knob, giving you a cleaner and more natural tube sound. In addition, this channel offers a Bright switch that adds emphasis to the upper harmonics of the tone when engaged.

Meets the challenge of today's broader tonal palette
The traditional, inimitable sound of the legendary AC30 continues to fascinate the guitarists of today. Many modern players have viewed this timeless design and desired more up-to-date options. While continuing to preserve the classic AC30's sonic character, the VOX Hand-Wired Series AC30HW2 combo offers the flexibility to meet the sound-creating requirements of a broad range of scenes and styles. The addition of a Master Volume and an Output Power (OP) mode switch lets you change the power amp's output level, delivering more detailed control over the gain/volume relationship, in turn providing more control over your sound. Despite being decked out in the retro-style fawn-colored vinyl suggestive of a 1960s-era AC30, this amp is not a mere nostalgia product. It's definitely designed for today's music scene.

"Old School" Master Volume bypass
The old AC30 had no master volume, nor indeed do most hand-wired amps. With such amps, high-gain sound meant that you needed to play at high volumes. High volume is unavoidable if tone is the primary consideration, but it can be inconvenient in many situations. The VOX Hand-Wired Series provides a master volume control, but also provides an MV/Bypass switch that completely bypasses the master volume section. This means that the legendary sound that has fascinated guitarists for more than 50 years can be faithfully reproduced, giving you a direct and pure high-gain tone.

AC30HW2 Review

By Griff

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Vox Hand-Wired AC30HW2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Picked it up on Wednesday; got to use it in a practice session Friday night. It is everything I hoped it would be. I was so pleased with my AC15C1 (still am), that I went ahead and ordered the AC30HW2 untried. I did learn this: there is a big difference between the AC15 and the AC30, not as much in the tone department as the power and dynamics of the AC30. The AC30 is a heck of a lot "bigger" more powerful sound. Now in fairness to the AC15C1, it is not a handwired AC30, nor is it intended to be. This comparison really speaks to how good a little amp the AC15C1. I sold a Blues Deluxe and a Marshall DSL50 halfstack to get this AC30HW2, but the AC15C1 will definitely stay. Review Summary: Build quality: Great; the promo pics are of the production amp in every way. ( My serial number is <100) Tolex seems better than my AC15C1; Fawnۡ_well, its Fawn, but I am getting used to it. I looked for MDF, there is none. Tube sockets mounted to a steel chassis, what a novel idea in this day of production amps. All PTP wiring here. It looks really well done inside. Tone: Better than you could possibly expect, superb tone, clarity, pick dynamics, double killer overdrive. The hot really jumps the gain, even to the metal ۡsphere. For what I play the cool setting is the ticket. Master Volume: a great invention and necessary; the bypass is great; another good feature that allows flexibility. Speakers: greenbacks are ok, but go alnico. I believe you will find them a good investment in this amp. I am using a Celestion British blue and a Celestion gold. Features: Simple, but very well done. Bright switch is good for a shimmer on the top end of the normal channel. Tone cut is also a useful feature. Tubes: I guess they are the best of new production, but I greatly prefer NOS, they are worth it in this amp. I put in my set of ۡ66 Amperex Bugle Boys pre and power and it is really sweet. Power OP mode: 15 watt mode; Ok for quiet playing and better executed than previous attempts; you will want to live in the 30 watt mode, itۡs the power. Reverb: There isn't one. I got the EH Holy Grail Plus. What a fantastic choice! This amp took the pedal like it was made for it. More pedals to test though. Overall: If you thought the AC15C1 and AC30C2 are great efforts by Vox, wait until you try this one. Someone is doing some really good work at Vox R&D, a tip of the hat to you. I am so glad to see the designers listening to us and providing relevant products; a mark of a true industry leader.

absolutely perfect!

Comments about Vox Hand-Wired AC30HW2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

took the plunge and went ahead and brought this baby home. man am i glad i did! this amp is everything you could ever want. its vox chime just erupts at all volumes and everyone knows exactly what amp you are playing when you strike a note. ive gotten more compliments on its tone than any other amp ive ever owned (and i only buy high quality products). this handwired beauty reacts instantaneously, and can cut through the live mix with ease. i normally play at 15 watts, whis is usually plenty, however if its one of those loud and crazy nights, with the flip of the switch, you are pushing all the tubes. dont be mistaken, this amp is loud when you want it to be, especially for 30 watts. and for those of you who are big u2 fans, this is the sound you are looking for. replicates the edges tone to perfection. buy this amp! you wont regret it! the best price you are going to find in a handwired amp. perfect!

Comments about Vox Hand-Wired AC30HW2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

If you need an amp that that you can turn all the way up in a venue, this is the one. Barely any boost or overdrive is needed to make it scream. Amp is very touch sensitive and delivers shiny cleans that bring out the character of your effects. I pair it with a Marshall JCM-900 combo and it's a massive sound. I'll definitely be buying more from Vox in the future.

Classic sound, wide range of tones.

Comments about Vox Hand-Wired AC30HW2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Was very impressed with the AC30C2 and was ready to buy one until I had a chance to play through an AC30HW2x. I wouldn't regret having the C2, it is a killer amp for the price! Still, the HW series has better overdrive in particular. I settled on the AC30HW2 with the greenbacks for a more solid mid-range punch. The alnicos are peerless for their chime, but I needed something a bit more versatile and found the greenbacks to the trick. Maybe Santa Claus will bring me the 2x12 alnico extension cabinet for Xmas and I'll have it all - haha! One of the most impressive aspects of this amp is the wide range of cleans vs. overdrive/distortions, muted and subdued tones vs. bright and chimey - it can do it all! And it has a master volume bypass for purists. It is a bit heavy, but well worth the exercise. And the amp is very, very loud for a 30 watt combo. The only venue too big for this amp will have a PA system to mic it with, so no problem. I still have a soft spot for old school Marshalls, but I'm definitely a Vox guy now.

Nothing but noise, not in a good way

    from Greenville, SC

Comments about Vox Hand-Wired AC30HW2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Let me start this off by stating that my wife and I are audiophiles, no ipods or mp3's, they are unacceptable, lacking depth and dimension. Have you heard the saying " nothing but mids and highs, no low's, it must be Bose, they are unacceptable as well. So with that said, I started off with the AC15 HW2, I was enamoured with the thought of a modern hand made amp, but found nothing but hiss and hum that vibrated the room. My studio has dedicated power as well as line conditioners for the power as well. So I returned the amp and climbed deeper down the rabbit hole and ordered an AC30HW2 to replace the 15. Same situation, just less hum. This time I really wanted the amp to work, so I replaced the power tubes, which are Ruby's, with Electro harmonics, this shut up the hum, but still a nasty hiss, even with nothing connected to the amp. So I replaced the audio tubes, also Ruby's, with Gold Lions, Stopped the hiss, but then after removing all the noise with $200 woth of tubes, I now could hear a metallic buzz after notes, especially on the A string, and no, a tubes did not go microphonic, tested for that as well. returned to Guitar Center, ordered a Fender Super Reverb, couldn't be happier. The VOX amps hated pedals as well.
