These sticks last way longer than Hot Rods and are well worth the higher price. They have a slightly louder tone at first when they are still stiff, but after a couple of sessions they loosen up. Great for live small acoustic sets.

There's only one other set of drum rods I like better than these, and that's the Vater Acoustic Solid Sticks. They're a bit firmer...that is, closer to the feel and response of real (one-piece) sticks. But when I want a slightly softer feel and response, these 7-dowel Acousticks are perfect. You can forget about the black adjustment bands and the O-rings. They'll work for a while, but it doesn't take long for them to get pulverized. The fix is to band the Acousticks with nylon ties. The nylon ties will break too, eventually, but they're inexpensive and easy to replace. With the nylon ties reinforcing the plastic sheathing, the hardwood dowels can take a lot of punishment. I use the Acousticks for practicing, and they build up my hand and arm strength. After using the Acousticks, when I switch to my regular sticks (Regal Tip Rock), it's almost effortless by comparison.

I picked these sticks up at my local guitar center. So much of the tone of my cymbals were lost in playing with these. I also was not happy with the feel of the sticks. If you are looking for a muffled sound on the cymbals for practice, then besides the feel issue, these sticks are okay. Its true that they are more difficult to break too. For these reasons, I gave the stick two stars. But I would never play live with these sticks.
