Taylor

Description

Taylor Guitars has built a reputation for great sound, superb playability, advanced acoustic-electric designs and a commitment to exploring sustainability in guitar building. The Taylor 814ce LTD, available in extremely limited numbers, is a great example of Taylor's amazing collection of gorgeous tonewoods. Featuring rare "sinker" redwood for the top, complemented by rosewood back and sides, the guitar achieves an incredible balance of warmth and bell-like clarity. The appointments are exquisite—Indian rosewood pickguard and top trim, mother-of-pearl peghead and fingerboard inlays, an abalone rosette edged in rosewood, rock maple binding, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots and Taylor's Radius Armrest. Let's take a moment to dig a little deeper into this very special guitar.

Taylor 814ce LTD Main Features

  • Sinker Redwood top and rosewood body
  • Mahogany neck
  • Ebony fingerboard and bridge
  • Expression System 2 behind the saddle transducer

Wood Drives the Tone

Sinker redwood is salvaged from old growth redwood logs that have been submerged in water for decades—sometimes a century or more. Such wood exhibits extremely tight grain and superior stiffness across the grain. It also develops striking color variegation thanks to mineral deposits that result from its long cold bath in a fresh water river. Sinker redwood has a tone that's reminiscent of cedar, but with a tighter attack and greater definition, especially in the midrange. The rosewood used for the back and sides of the 814ce LTD has a slightly scooped-mid quality with deep lows and bell-like highs, that perfectly complements the top. By using the unique characteristics of these woods, the end result is excellent touch sensitivity, a warm expressiveness with rich complexity and the complex overtones that make it a continuing joy to play.

Shaped by Players' Needs

The Grand Auditorium body shape, developed by Taylor, has been an integral part of the "Taylor sound" and has become a player favorite due to its versatility. Whether you're a fingerstyle player, strummer or hybrid stylist, the 814ce LTD responds with clear, balanced tone across the entire spectrum, making it an excellent all-purpose acoustic-electric.

Innovation Moves the Air

Taylor's V-Class bracing has been a game changer in acoustic guitar design. Taking the next step beyond traditional X bracing, it literally creates a new platform for acoustic guitars. By increasing the flexibility of the top without compromising strength, it allows for both greater volume and sustain while taming aspects of random top vibration that could cancel out some frequencies and cause others to sound a little out of tune. Added benefits are increased ease of tuning and a more balanced response, both up and down, as well as across the entire fingerboard.

Dynamic, Plugged or Unplugged

The Taylor 814ce LTD features Taylor's Expression System 2 (ES2) pickup and preamp for full dynamic range, whether you're playing in your living room or onstage. By developing a three-part pickup system that mounts behind the saddle, rather than under it, Taylor enables the saddle to have full, direct contact with the bridge, for a complete transfer of string vibrations to the sensitive V-Class braced top. Combine this with the custom-designed preamp, and the end result is a faithful reproduction of your guitar's voice when recording direct or playing through an acoustic guitar amp.

Taylor Guitars has always stood for unmatched build quality, incredibly stable, amazingly playable necks and versatile tone. These extremely limited editions drive home those qualities in a very special way.
