Overview

Forcefield Compressor is here to give you all the vintage squish and squash you could ever want at a price that simply can’t be ignored. From subtle sustain enhancements to smooth signal leveling and all the way to full-on chicken-picking compression, you’ll find it all and more in this great road-ready pedal.

All Analog Awesomeness
Compression is always one of the hardest effects to explain due to its subtle nature. You often feel compression more than you hear it, and it just makes it easier and more fun to play when it’s on. Forcefield Compressor’s vintage circuit design instantly instills that feeling in you, and whether you’re going for some sweet tube-like sag or an unapologetic squash, you’re sure to find it here.

That Old-School Feel
Vintage analog compression differs greatly from modern studio compression. You won’t get the glassy transparency of rack gear, instead you get gobs of warmth and a smooth tonal characteristic that has helped shape the history of rock and country music. From sublime David Gilmour sustain to Albert Lee-like picking that pops out of the mix beautifully, you can get it all with Forcefield Compressor.

Compact Compression
Forcefield Compressor easily squeezes into every setup due to its compact, yet extremely durable design with top-mounted ins and outs, so it doesn’t take up any space on your board where it matters the most. On top of that it features True Bypass so it doesn’t affect your tone in any way when off.

Backstage Pass – All Access
Highly intuitive to use and sporting a ton of cool compression tones. Let’s get to know Forcefield Compressor a tiny bit better.

Level The Playing Field
The level knob greatly interacts with the sustain knob, since you’ll have to make up for lost gain when compressing your signal. But you can also crank the level, and use Forcefield Compressor as a booster for solo parts. So many options, so little time!

Singing Sustain
This determines how much you want to compress your signal. Set it low for a subtle, but highly usable signal leveling, or crank it for tons of rhythm squash and endless solo sustain. To quote Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tufnel “You can go and have a bite and aaaaaaaaaah, you’ll still be hearing that one!”

An All Out Tone Attack
This determines how fast the compression is applied. Set it low for a fast and squashed response or crank it for a more open and organic compression tone.

True Bypass
The concept is simple. When the pedal is on, you should hear it. When it’s off, you shouldn’t hear it at all. Forcefield Compressor does exactly that and never compromises your tone when bypassed,

I needed a compressor to complete a looper pedal board for a gig, on short notice. I had researched a few models but was still undecided. I saw this model on a price drop and it was the first I heard about this line of pedals from TC Electronic. I figured for the price, if it got me through the gig it could buy me time to figure out which model suited my needs best so I bought it unheard.

I plugged it in, set the knobs at noon, and plugged in my ASAT. Done! The sound was spot on, inspiring, and better than I had hoped for. I added it to my board and set out for my gig.

I ended up using it for acoustic guitar and backed the compression down to 9 O'Clock. This let me fine tune the compression response with the guitar's volume control and then adjust the level into the looper with the compressor's level.

Overall, the pedal sounds superb. For a country setup, it's perfect. I did not think it would work well with acoustic so that was a major bonus.

Pleasantly surprised, not even looking for anything else now. Probably grab a spare.

This was my first compressor try. I bought it to try and even out individual finger picking string volumes on guitar, and to even out high and low string volume on my bass guitar. I was aware that compressors can add some noise-similar to a limiter adding a swishing sound as the sound decays, but I was hoping the benefit outweighed the added noise. It did not. To hear any real effect, I had to boost the "sustain" (Compression level) so the pedal noise background noise, and even some infrequent static popping, became more evident. I put the guitar directly into the pedal. Noise not good at loud gig amp volumes.
Having a clean sound is my number one priority- No doubt I will work try to improve my technique in lieu of shortcuts. Probably good idea to add compression on final recordings, but this pedal is too noisy for me for live gigging. FYI- My guitar goes through a Fishman Loudbox Artist, and bass through Fender Rumble..

Comments about TC Electronic Forcefield Compressor Effect Pedal:

Quality piece of equipment. Don't let the price tag fool you this pedal will do everything you need a compression pedal to do. Easy to use, plug it right in the chain and go. This thing is built like a tank too; with a silent on/off switch, no click. I'm a satisfied customer.

Comments about TC Electronic Forcefield Compressor Effect Pedal:

Great pedal for the price. Adds some nice sustain. Nice to be able to adjust attack. As good as any other compressor I've used. Only criticism is the bypass button doesn't click like my other pedals, so if I'm not looking, I might not tap in all the way to click it on. Minor annoyance, not the end of the world. Definitely worth a try, especially at this price point.

Comments about TC Electronic Forcefield Compressor Effect Pedal:

I bought this pedal as a way to even out my dynamics a bit, and it works great for that. Also, with the level knob turned up past about 9 o'clock it can also serve as a booster, pushing your amp just a little harder than your guitar pickups normally would but without adding distortion of its own. Did I mention this thing is sturdy? All metal construction, no cheap plastic parts here! I'm still learning the ins and outs, but I'm liking what I hear so far.

Comments about TC Electronic Forcefield Compressor Effect Pedal:

Had about 3 months.. not a bad compressor while it worked.. subtle compression not to be compared to a dyna comp for squishy but very quiet by comparison.. sadly the compression effect went away.. leaving only the boost working... Not certain if a potentiometer problem (sustain) or an internal issue? Never left my bedroom so not a case of abuse. At such a low price and apparent weakness not really considering paying shipping for repair? Thinking a better unit might be a better use of money? Will use it as a boost while that function still works...

Comments about TC Electronic Forcefield Compressor Effect Pedal:

So like many other budget-conscious musicians, I know how to get the sounds I want from the little amount of gear I have. I've been playing for 12 years and gigging for 10.

I decided to try a compressor after I picked up a Tele to add into the mix and figured this had enough features to get by. It absolutely does. I can't say enough for how quality this pedal for the price. It does everything you could want as far as compression goes. I've used it as a clean boost for solos or as a full-blown "make it sound like Nashville" compressor and it does both just fine. It is also useful for self defense, sucker weighs a ton. If someone gets out of line, just toss it at them. It'll work like Mjölnir and just keep them down until you pull it off of them.

My problem with it is that it makes everything sound dark. I understand that compressors are going to even out frequencies across the spectrum, but this thing doesn't seem to have a low cut where it needs to have one. If you're playing in drop F# tuning and Djenting it up, this will work for you. It could also work as a bass compressor. It just doesn't work for me and my rig in standard tuning with a twangy Tele. If it had a simple tone circuit, then I'd be giving this 5 stars. It doesn't so I won't. Satisfied, but not impressed.

Very nicely built and solid with metal case. All these new TC products are like that which I very much appreciate in this plastic world.

I was really hoping it worked well. I could not tell any difference with the pedal on or off. Returned after much experimentation. It was my first compressor pedal but I was expecting some nice sustain for solos. I didn't find it. .
