Comments about Sterling by Music Man MAJ100-ICR John Petrucci Signature Series Majesty Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a keeper. Lighter than I expected it would be but balanced and a blast to play. Excellent craftsmanship, beautiful design, easy access to the higher frets (20-24), excellent intonation. I would give this five stars if not for the "cheap", thin-sounding pickups. Don't even think twice about getting this beauty and spending the extra to upgrade the pups; she's totally worth it. I changed mine out myself and the wiring harness is great quality. I have it screaming, now, the way I expected it to. As far as the tremolo system goes, it'll dive with the best on the market; the problem is with the pull-up in the trem, it loses tuning, which is odd but not a deal breaker (I've used Fenders for years, so diving and remaining in tune is a HUGE step-up!).
This guitar has tremendous value and upside. Beautiful to look at (I just LOVE that long upper horn!), lightweight and comfortable to play, nice extra jumbo fret wire, excellent crowning on the frets, the controls are well placed, the tuning keys are excellent quality, the body is well-balanced. The only negative is the pickups need upgraded (what stock guitar doesn't?).

Comments about Sterling by Music Man MAJ100-ICR John Petrucci Signature Series Majesty Electric Guitar:

I'd been wanting to try this body style since the Majesty Music Man versions were released and I thought that since Sterling's copy of the original JP model was pretty good I would give this one a shot. It was so light it felt like I was holding on to a feather. I'm not saying I'm a fan of heavy guitars but this one felt almost non-existent. It was really hard for me to get past that and I felt like it affected the tone and sustain. I wasn't impressed with the pickups or trem action either. I will usually have a guitar set up by my luthier before making a final decision but I felt no connection with this model from the moment I tuned it up so never got that far. It seemed well enough made and I found no flaws in the nice red satin finish but the cavity between the neck pickup and the neck itself was sloppy looking. It looked like there was either unfinished or corroded metal on the trussrod adjustment end. I have never played the music man version so can't compare to it but for the price tag on this I expected something more substantial with regards to feeling of stability, visual perfection and tone. I also have a hard time with them omitting the Illuminator pickups at this the price. For a hundred dollars less they offer the excellent Sterling JP100D with DiMarzio Crunch Lab and Liqui-Fire so why not ship this one with name brand pickups? I ended up returning it reasoning I could get a significantly more satisfying experience for the same price from Ibanez, ESP, Schecter or even Fender. It is really a beautiful guitar but in my hands it felt like an empty shell. I hope your experience is completely different. :-)

Comments about Sterling by Music Man MAJ100-ICR John Petrucci Signature Series Majesty Electric Guitar:

Ok..well the guitar is beautiful, feels great, and Is very light. I love that it isn't a bolt on neck. Here's my beef with the guitar. A few frets on the guitar will almost mute it's self vs ringing out. At 900$ plus tax it does not come with dimarzio pickups. The Sterling pickups are lacking character. The jp100d is 200$ cheaper and comes with dimarzio crunch lab and liquifire pickups. I definitely recommend swapping pickups if you're a tone snob. The boost works very well. Hoping a set of illuminators and a proper set up will help me like this guitar more than just for looks. The neck feels very nice good contour. Around the frets 20-24 there was gunk and red paint that I had carefully removed.
