Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

Ultimate travel companion. It is what it is, an accurate player that's a real pleaser anywhere I go.
My 'berger has been in countless motel rooms, campfires, boats, etc. I'll pass it around and all I see are other players grinning and nodding their heads in time. 5 years now, played first through a GNX4 and a old school Milwaukee jobsite radio, iRig UA, Peavey VYPYR 15w, and just bought a Fender GT-40 for it. Even piped into my Sony Xplod in the car... If it's affordable small footprint portability you need or desire, I don't believe there's another choice.
The pups are NOT that bad at all for average entertainment purposes. I don't think you're dragging your stack with you for beers n pickin at a campfire, or cruise to the Apostle Islands, or that 3 day business trip...
This li'l guitar is the chit !
      Jam on, brothers !

Hey ! GC ! Think you guys could stock strings for these ? Had to order 'em out of Madison. Couldn't hurt to stock a few sets, yah ?

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

After reading the specs and reviews on the internet I chose this for my baby steps. I own a EKO Phnatom Ghost IV and it has a bolt on neck. What it also has: a fretboard with lousy action. Just learning to play was a challenge. This guitar is different. The frets feel close, easy to reach and the neck feels wider. After purchasing the guitar I took it to Guitar Cneter in Allen Park, MI and my salesman "Cosmo" tuned up the strings and adjusted them for easy action. The only complaint I have is that the R-Trem Locking device was really "locked" out of the box. Cosmo used a flat head screw driver to free it and there's no problem now. This is a really great guitar for the money. I can't wait to get home to play it. With a solid body neck and a roller bridge that keeps the strings in place this is really a fun guitar for novice or pro. Steinbereger really did his homework creating this instrument.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

My clean amp tones sound muddy on these humbuckers. It seems they are tuned more for distortion or overdriven tones. The tremolo arm does not attach to the tremolo - it is fitted into a machined hole. On my guitar, there is too much play in the fit and the tremolo arm has a tendency to fall to the floor when I release it. The flatter radius neck took some getting used to, but I find that fretting notes and chords is no more difficult than my other guitars - after having it set up by my local luthier, that is. Some of the frets needed levelling, but that was all. I travel alot, and have had several travel guitars. The Spirit, by far, is the most versatile guitar I have yet traveled with. It is a full-featured instrument, it plays well through Amplitube, and I highly recommend one if you like to take your guitar on the road.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

This was purchased to match my vintage Steinberger 4-string bass guitar. As received the frets are reasonably leveled and the fret ends nicely beveled. The string height was excessive. The supplied strings were impossible to get a stable tune and would not accurately intonate. Changing to a set of D'Addario 10 - 46 strings, the setup was adjusted to 5/64" on the 6th string and 4/64" on the first string with the bridge saddle heights of the remaining strings set to maintain the 14" fret board radius. This setup does the trick and allows the guitar to be accurately tuned and intonated. Moving on to the sound, the HSH combination of the pickups and the 5-way selector switch offer a very wide sonic palette. The tone control presents a wide useable range. Rolling back the volume presents a relatively clean tone which never gets completely clean and sparkly. Raising the volume presents increasing levels of "hair and grit". Tuning is very stable with the bridge lock engaged. Unlocking the bridge presents a significant +/- range vibrato range. The master tuning knob is a nice touch, allowing the unlocked guitar to be tuned the same as the locked guitar. I currently have a little over 5 hours play time on this instrument and the bottom line is that I am quite pleased with this guitar.

        Service and delivery comments:

While backordered for several weeks, Guitar Center was reasonable with availability updates. The guitar was well packed for shipping and was received in good condition.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

If you can get this thing set up the right way, its a great guitar. You will need to lower the action and when you do, thats when the fret buzz starts but its not that bad depending on how low you want the action. The lower the action the worse the fret buzz. Which is a bummer. The pickups in this thing are horrible. I'm dropping a set of Seymour Duncan Invaders into this thing to balance out the tone of this guitar. Its made of hard maple ,so inherently it has a very bright tone to it hence the pickup swap out (Invaders). A little more tinkering with this thing and it will be a beast.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I must admit that I avoided purchasing one of these in the 80's because of the odd and unconventional shape. Also never saw one in the music store which would have given me the chance to audition one. This time I took a chance when I saw these re-issues. I honestly did not expect the quality that I got at this price point and was really shocked at how nice of a guitar this is. Frets were dressed and no sprout, action was acceptable middle of the road (I may lower later but it's fine right now), and guitar was playable out of the box. I love the design ethos of this company and owning this guitar has turned my head around 180 degrees and am now a fan of this model and brand. I've always been a fan of Van Halen's 5150 era and this was the style of guitar (minus the Transtrem bridge) that was used on song Summer Nights. My only criticisms would be that for a re-boot/re-issue guitar you are somewhat limited on colors and pickup types. I'm really hoping that someday that success with the Spirit line will allow options like Trans-trem bridge and graphite neck to be offered. Build it and I will buy it!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I was looking at travel guitars for while I am out of town on business. I did not like the idea of sacrificing my neck pickup and the sounds that come with it. This guitar is excellent for what I needed. Does it match up to a Gibson Standard or a High End ESP/Schecter, no but that's not its intent and for its intent it is almost perfect. The pickups are a bit muddy but setting up your EQ for the guitar works wonders. Outside of this I have no complaints about the guitar. The gig bag leaves something to be desired and I don't think it will hold up to much. Time will tell.

This is a well made guitar for the money. I'm just beginning to learn, and found it's easy to reach all the frets, and it seems that this guitar has a wider neck for my fingers. It's very lightweight and the sound is fantastic. The only complaint I have is that the R-Trem Locking Tremolo switch at the bottom was really "locked!" I took it to Guitar Center in Allen Park, MI and my salesman "Cosmo" tuned it up and used a flat-head screwdriver to move the switch. That did the trick and now it's easy to insert the Tremolo bar. I'd buy it before the price goes up!

Excellent for the price. Stays in tune very well. Sounds good but pickups could be better. Tremelo was rubbing against body so I had to take the Tremelo off and trim the cavity and shim . Now Trem works great. Trem does not raise as far as I would like but still very nice. I like use Trem to vibrato upwards. Works better on a Floyd.

I bought this guitar for travel knowing that the pickups are weak.
Replace the pickups to your liking and it is a great guitar for travel, live and recording.

One glaring problem with the guitar is the placement of the volume knob. The volume knob gets in the way of my strumming pattern.

Solution was to remove the volume knob and replace it with a kill switch button.

                      Happy Jamming.

I'm enjoying this new guitar. Seems to be very playable. Not sure about the sound quality just yet, but seems OK. Workmanship seems very good, except for edges of fretboard which don't look perfect (some scalloping near frets edges probably due to overly aggressive power polishing). But no rough or sharp fret wire edges which is common with some Chinese built guitars.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I've owned a lot of guitars, and, for the money, I don't know how anyone could criticize these beautiful Steinberger guitars. No, the pickups won't match the most elite machines, of which I've owned many, but, when it comes to simply being a fun, easy to play and very entertaining musical instrument, these Steinberger Spirits are absolutely fantastic. They're great machines, and from novice to pro, they can deliver. Regarding specifics, I was very surprised at the depth of resonance this ultra small body still gives; unplugged tone is surprisingly great, and I did not expect that at all from such a tiny piece. The neck plays easy / good frets / nice feel. It's also easier to hold comfy than I thought, particularly with the kick-out knee-rest which is wisely placed. To me, headless guitars are really not much different than double-locking trems. Once the lock's on - same effect. So, in terms of bridge/tremolo, the most appropriate comparison that comes to mind is to guitars with Floyds. I don't find the tremolo as flexible (more firm feel) as those with Floyds, and, yes, to me, that stiffens the expressive touch a bit, but, in regards to staying in tune, perfectly, these do seem to work very akin to the Floyds; the guitar stays in tune excellent in the unlocked tremolo setting, and, when locked as a hardtail, it's even better, an absolute beast! - absolutely fantastic at staying in tune. Mine's in glossy black, and the finish is quite nice. Overall, these are very nice little guitars that can deliver a fun feel, fun playing experience that any level musician could enjoy. It's good enough to gig with live, but also easy enough to start much simpler on. Would I use it in a studio? No, I'd pick something with more pickup power there, but, as most of us know, a great player doesn't need the most expensive guitar to play good. These Steinberger Spirit's are good guitars that I see as comparable to any of the top brand imports. Great guitar at mild price!

I owned one of the original GL's, back in the 80's, and I must say that these remakes are pretty impressive! While no longer using the active EMG pickups (and their own pickups are a little muddy), and no longer made from graphite, overall this is a solid little instrument. Stays in tune, and once I adjusted the action, it plays like a dream! I'm looking forward to replacing the pickups, probably with a set of DiMarzio Stevie Vai Evolution (H/S/H). The best value I've seen, and a great travel guitar on top of everything else.

I'm a 40 plus year guitar player/recording hobbyist. I bought one of these in 2002 for business trips and ended up using it instead of my other guitars for everything. I always wanted one in black and now I have it! the action and intonation needed adjustment, now the string height is 3.5 64ths with NO fret buzz...none! I could not be more pleased. I love these guitars!
