Solid and Inexpensive - NOT cheap.....

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s Electric Guitar:

I've played for 40+ years. I've bought and traded a number of guitars over the years. I recently began gigging again and didn't want to take my vintage LP Deluxe out. I've always had a soft spot for the maple neck strats, and love the black on black look. I thought I'd replace pickups, tuners, etc. in order to get a decent gigging guitar. NO! It's set up for 9's - just replace the bullets for D'addario's, and enjoy! I run it through a Blues Deluxe reissue, and have compliments on looks, tone, and playability. The "made for Fender" Duncan pickups do a fine job - you may or may not choose to replace them. I find them versatile and great sounding. The only mods I made were to lower the action, change pickup heights to my taste, put in a thicker tremelo block, and replaced the chrome screws with black ones. Bargain strat, but let's keep it a secret, so the price stays low, OK?

Awesome value for the price!

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s Electric Guitar:

I have been looking at this particular Squier VM Strat since it was released almost a year ago. It got generally rave reviews from many different sources (Internet and YouTube, etc). I agree with other reviewers in that this Vintage Modified series from Squier offers one heck of a bargain considering what one gets: a vintage tinted gloss maple love (which feels great and sounds even better), an oversized headstock that looks cool and gives the guitar better balance IMHO, decent Duncan-Designed single coils (which aren't too bad), and a typical strat setup and configuration that has made the Stratocaster popular for 60+ years. Like most other reviewers, I am looking at some point to replace the pickups with DiMarzio Area Strat pups, perhaps, but for now I am happy with the various strat tones I can get in a comfortable and playable electric. I do seem to have some tuning problems with the "G" string even though I had a new set of Ernie Ball Slinkys (Lime, .46-.10) put on and had it set up by a guitar shop, but I think it can be fixed with some more minor adjustments. Pickup height does need to be adjusted out-of-the-box as well, but that's probably true of any guitar purchased, even new. Amazing value.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s Electric Guitar:

I have 7 Strats, this is my 8th. 5 are MIM reissues that I have modified. I plan to change the PU config in this guitar as well. Maybe try some Fender Noiseless. The guitar was nearly perfectly set up out of the box. Very minor intonation adjustments on the 3rd and 4th strings. The neck alone is wort the $275. Feels like my MIA '57 reissue neck.

    Great buy for the price

    By Elio

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s Electric Guitar:

I picked up one of these and plugged it in. I was so impressed with the sound that I bought it on the spot even though I wasn't looking for a guitar at the time. I had some modifications done to it and I now have a fabulous guitar for a fraction of the price. Off the rack it sounded great and you can't go wrong with this instrument. For my tastes I had the back tone knob wired to the bridge pick-up, had the whammy bar loosened for rocking back and forth, and I would recommend changing out the switch and guitar inputs as the Chinese ones aren't great. But that's just minor stuff really. Recently I replaced the Duncan designed pick-ups, (which are surprisingly good and pretty quiet) with Tex-Mex strat pick-ups and this guitar for about $120 more stands up to any American strat out there. If you're on a budget or just frugal like me this guitar is a great value.

Great Buy at a great price

    By Elio

    from Tampa, FL

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar when it first came out and paid about $50 more than it's listing now. I've since hot rodded the thing all to hell. That was my choice, but I can say as is this is a wonderful guitar for the price. The first thing that I noticed was that the Duncan designed pick-ups sounded really good and were much quieter than I expected for a guitar at this price. The bridge pup was very hot and bright, so the first thing I did was have the tech wire it to the middle tone knob. I've since added a super-vee mag-lok, (don't waste your money folks), locking tuners, a tusq nut, and roller style string trees (I love my whammy bars). Lastly I swapped out the pups for Tex-Mex pups and let me tell you, this baby rocks! Off the rack it sounded great mind you, but I'm a bit picky. The Maple neck is a bit flatter than you usually get on a strat so it doesn't fret out on bends. Even before I swapped out the pups it had great tone in positions 2 and 4, (my fave positions). In the end, you can't go wrong if you're on a budget and want a strat, or if you're like me and want the sound and feel of an $1800 strat at a quarter of the price.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s Electric Guitar:

I bought this the same year they came out. What a nice guitar! I further modified mine to look and sound some what like Mr. Gilmour's black strat (including the pickup mod with mini toggle). If you are looking for a good stratocaster under 300 bones, this in my opinion is it ...

This guitar both feels and sounds great. I'd forgotten how fun strats are and I prefer this to the last guitar I played,
      which was a hollow-body Gretsch.

I honestly like this guitar better than my brand new SG which was 4X the price! I played at least a half dozen MIM strats and one or two American strats before I bought this, and while most played great there's no way they're worth the extra money to me.

Had this guitar for about 3 years now. Pretty solid. The action needs lowered a bit but besides that it's pretty great. Good hardware for the price. The pickups sound great for some classic strat tones. I keep this in Eb tuning just cause it sounds wonderful. Just learned to play Little Wing and it sounds great on this guitar for the price.
