Still the Best Value Strat You Can Buy

I started playing on a Squier Bullet Strat, bought a Mexican Fender Telecaster, and then a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Strat, which has been my main electric for practice and gigs for three years. The fact that I moved from a "real" Fender to the CV, and now to my second CV, should speak volumes as to how highly I regard these instruments. Looking at the new generation CV 60s Strat, the quality of fit and finish is still impeccable. The Lake Placid Blue seems a bit grayer than I'm used to, but it's beautiful. Fret ends are smooth, neck pocket is tight, gloss finish on the beautiful maple neck is perfect, and the Laurel fingerboard is nice and medium-dark with pretty grain. Tuning machines actually seem a bit nicer than those of my 2015 model '50s Strat, but only time will tell if they are as stable. Plating on the shiny bits is flawless, "Squier" stamped saddles are a neat touch, as is the wood truss rod plug. Pots, the jack, and the 5-way switch are all tight and feel quality. 3 ply pickguard is classy. Nut is cut perfect and the guitar's factory setup is excellent; intonation is spot on and action is great. The first thing that jumped out at me with this guitar is how resonant it is. Play a chord, mute the strings, and the body still resonates. Plugging it in, it's sound can easily run with my CV '50s (which means it sounds as good or better than any Strat under $1000). Pickups are smooth and crystalline, like a good Strat should be, and when played dirty, have a surprising amount of output and kick. I've already had it at band practice and everybody complimented the sound. The neck profile, while a little small, is a tad wider than my old '50s Strat, comfortable enough to play all day. My guitar is Crafted in China (super low serial number in the 300s); from what I'm hearing, the new CVs are set to be made in Indonesia. Time will tell if the Indonesian guitars are up to this level of quality, but for now, IMO, the CV series still represents unbeatable value.

Quality issues

Overall, it's a great guitar but has some issues. Fret ends are rough and frets themself are not very smooth. Needs sanded and a good polish. On the back where the wood was glued together there's a mismatch in the flatness like it wasn't sanded level so there's a noticeable line showing. I was hoping more for this price. My Chinese Affinity had no issues like this.

When I got this guitar, it was my first electric guitar! It plays beautifully for its price and it's still one of my favorite guitars! The only thing to watch out for is that if you play it a ton, it starts to really decline! So I recommend upgrading it later on if you intend on keeping it forever! Definitely recommend!

Definitely love the sound of this guitar. And the color is amazing. The pickups are a little weak but doesn't take away from the tone.

Does this guitar have the same body thickness as Fender strats? or is it a thing body like normal squier guitars? Does anyone know of any squier bodies that are full thickness?

Does this guitar have the same body thickness as Fender strats? or is it a thing body like normal squier guitars? Does anyone know of any squier bodies that are full thickness?

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
Yes, a Squier Classic Vibe '60s guitar is generally considered to be the same thickness as a Fender guitar of the same era, as Squier aims to closely replicate the classic Fender designs and dimensions, including body thickness, in their Classic Vibe series. Although the thickness is generally consistent, there might be slight variations in individual guitars from both Fender and Squier due to manufacturing processes.
