The first thing is the price. For under $300, you get a decent shell kit. It isn't *perfect* but for the price I paid, I wasn't expecting a DW quality. The kit has a good look to it, and produces a decent sound. One thing I did was replace the bass drum stock batter head with the 18" Evans EMAD bass drum head. I also replaced the resonant (bottom) heads on both toms with Remo Ambassador clear heads. Both these changes made a HUGE difference! (The snare heads and tom batter heads are fine -- no need to replace). With the minor adjustments I made, this kit now sounds just as good as a Gretsch Catalina kit that I'm used to playing... And for a fraction of the cost! In my opinion, this is worth the purchase if you're on a tight budget. I would love a Gretsch or DW, but for the price, this kit is a great deal. I'm glad to have made this purchase.

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs Street Bop Birch Ply 4-Piece Shell Pack:

This lil thing really puts out. There's quality all around the kit, the hoops, rims and edges are fantastic and the wrap isn't bad either. The plastic throw-off seems a bit weird but works.

I was amazed when I opened the packaging and was blown away by the fit and finish of the kit. But when I put the stock heads on the drums, I never thought a kit could sound that terrible.

A few days later, I found a cost effective solution was to put my favorite heads on the batter side (G2's on toms and Emad on the kick) and then use the stock Remo UT's that were to be used for the batter side and put them for resos and voila! AMAZING sound.

The resos that come with the kit are pure garbage - they looked like old cuts of a shower curtain...this must've been one of the places (like the plastic snare throw-off) that they cut corners. But once I fixed all the skins, I've been nothing less than blown away by the sound of this little kit. Another plus is the 18 inch kick that allows maximum rack tom placement! I highly recommend this kit - for any reason or application!

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs Street Bop Birch Ply 4-Piece Shell Pack:

Purchased this from the Charlotte, NC Guitar Center as a Christmas present for my wife. Great value in a shell pack, good sound with the included heads, but improves dramatically with just a small investment in better skins. Only negative is it's a shell pack, which means you need a throne, a kick pedal, a snare drum stand and cymbals and stands. So, by the time you get all those (and maybe a second mounted tom) you're well into $700 and should have gotten an different kit. lol. Still, great sounding kit and my wife just loves beating the heck out of it while listening to her One Dimension CDs, which is what it's all about!

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs Street Bop Birch Ply 4-Piece Shell Pack:

I use this kit on smaller venues or where the stage may be a little tight. I put Evans Emad on kick drum and what a sound. Wow. Played a gig the other night and the sound man was blown away. As you might guess the stock heads are what they are. For what you spend on this kit you can afford to put heads on. The shells look really good on stage and I did add a bass drum lift from Gibralter to get the kick up to reach that Sweet Spot on the head. I have multiple drum kits from Tama and Mapex and even use D.W. from time to time, but this little kit is a dream to transport and set up. Budget for heads and get this kit. You will not be sorry.

After playing (and over paying) for a Sonor Martini kit, in a small place for that past 2 years without ever finding a good sound, I traded them in for this kit..OMG what a difference..change the batters and you have a sweet kit. only neg is the plastic snare throw off great out of the gate,,sweet finish and quality,,,but hey..rock out!

I got this with the 25% off coupon which ends up being an incredible deal! Swapped out the heads for Emperor's, added some Zildjian A's and Z's with the money saved and now I have a rad sounding kit in my music room. I'm an ok drummer (mainly a guitarist) but when my drummer friends come over they are blown away by it. Definitely recommend!

My first kit, so have no baseline for comparisin; however, item arrived timely with no dings or dents. Perfect little 4 piece kit for me. Got some Ziljian cymbals and Yamaha 600 series hardware to complete it. Just moved all the guitars and gear upstairs to make room for it:) Excited to learn a new instrument, and to eventually bring it to casual jams with friends, too.

I I have tuned for Rock and in a matter of minutes I can tune it up for jazz.

Traded my Ludwig breakbeats for this because the kick is 18" and has wood hoops. Slapped Evans emad on the kick placed the batter stock tom heads on the reso side and black chromes on the batter side and it sounds great. The snare is okay just not my preference as a main snare, would be great as a side snare. Glad I switched to this kit. If you're interested in a bop kit don't pass this by just put some good heads on and you won't regret it.

Would recommend it to anyone looking for a great quality kit this size which won't break the bank. Usually I buy Ludwig but SPL has impressed me with this one.
