If you are going Pro in the video market, then go with the industry standard in my opinion. Sony Vegas Pro 9 is awesome. You are only limited to your imagination. The new desktop color is easier on the eyes and gives a more accurate preview of videos. I run Vista, 4 gig ram, 2Ghz processor, 512 meg video card and 500 gig hard drive. Smooth, responsive and only occasional software lock up. Not bad for demanding video effects and unlimited tracks. As with any critical and crucial software I save often and move my completed videos to an external backup drive to free up hard drive space. At some of the higher resolutions available, you can burn up between 5 to 30 megabytes per second on your hard drive. It takes time to learn gimmicks and tips but there are numerous internet sites with video training to speed up the process. A good camera is essential. What you film is what you get. If you only need to convert VCR to DVD then use Movie Studio 9 or Windows Movie Maker (part of Win XP and Vista operating system with 2 tacks of video and 2 tracks of audio and a few transitions or efx). If you want to create graphics like you see on TV commercials then get Vegas Pro 9.
