All around a let down, even for Simmons. Same junky sounds as the SD7PK, but not to worry... this thing still picks up hits as well as the SD7PK, which is to say, well... awful. Anything over eighth notes is going to start dropping hits. The polyphony is equally bad. Hit any more than three things at the same time and one or more of the sounds will drop out. Great for a beginner, but what beginner is adding in electronic elements to their kit? All around a bad offering from Simmons.
It has the same sounds as the SD7PK. However, it is not the same module. It does not support dual zone trigger pads. The response of the triggers is fine and this can be increased or decreased as needed. I purchased this system to convert my Pearl Rhythm Traveler from a practice set to an electronic set. The SDHB2 comes with one DDrum tom trigger and 2 Pintech triggers. The DDrum trigger works on the Mesh heads. The other triggers are adhesive mounted, which is junk for any type of head (they don't stay adhered to the head). I wish this came with 3 DDrum triggers instead. I have not tried the DDrum bass drum trigger so I cannot review that. The HiHat input did not work with the Alesis DMHat, I had to rewire the DMHat and make my own cable for it to work. I also purchased a Yamaha DTXtreme bass drum trigger which works well. Overall, it cost me about $400 to convert my practice set which is about as much as a low end electronic set. I would only recommend the SDHB2 to someone who wants to expand their electronic set without having to upgrade their module.
