Have to give this an "incomplete" at this point....

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Stage-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

From an esthetic and build quality standpoint, I give this bass pretty high marks. The hardware and electronics are high quality, and I love the flat-painted neck. Overall I'd like to say it's a pretty good value, but...........

The instrument arrived with such bad fret buzz that it is unplayable. It appears that a truss rod adjustment and/or a little work on the bridge height might do the trick to fix it, but I'm caught in a bit of a "Catch 22" at this point. I purchased the bass on-line and was hopeful that a quick trip to my local Guitar Center for a N/C adjustment would get me up a and running, but apparently things don't quite work that way (the store may want me to pay to get the instrument playable). My other option would be to return the bass and get a new one sent out, but there's no guarantee the replacement wouldn't have the same issue.

We'll see how this plays out.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Stage-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

This is the third schecter that I've bought. I fell in love with the design after getting a bug in my brain about getting a white bass. While overall it feels like a really good quality bass, schecter puts really lame pickups in these. The sound quality sounded so dead to me. I considered returning it because it was so bad. It just had a very flat sound...and mysteriously wasn't able to pick up any of the rich harmonic undertones of the string. Anyway, I just finally (after months of loving the sound of this bass while NOT plugged in) got new EMG Hz pickups installed, and FINALLY it sounds amazing. It's the price I had to pay I guess for falling in love with this bass. But that added $250 to the cost. I wish Schecter would just put good pickups in their basses to begin with. That would save people like me the heartache of having to shell out so much extra $$ to give it a good sound.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Stage-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

I've been playing a Schecter Damien 4 for about 5yrs. I got it used and it has been good till recently. I had 2 pots go bad. It was well used when I got it so I figured it was time to look into a new bass. I was sold on an SR400EQM as I had Ibanez for YEARS prior (SR200, SR400). I came across this bass at my local Guitar center after going there to see 2 basses they said were in stock online (seperate 20mi trips), but were not actually in store. The manager showed me this one, I played around with it and wow.....Schecter has come a long way. This thing feels and sounds amazing. It has a slight fret buzz but Im sure GC will take care of that. First live playing is coming up at my church and I cant wait.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Stage-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

As posted in the other reviews. The factory set-up for the neck relief is horrible. That a side, the bass felt so good in my hands at the store that i had to buy it it home. Factory set-up had Zero relief, maybe even a little back bow! Because this bass has strengthening rods in its neck turning the truss rod was not as simple as most guitars. On top of that the truss rod nut is probably the worst part of the guitar, not well made and can be easily striped if not overly careful. It took about 3 or 4 adjustments over two weeks to the truss rod to get the relief where it belongs as the neck wanted to kept setting back to near zero relief after a couple days.

That being said... Now that the neck has settled in proper playing position. The strengthening rods should hold its relief for quite along time and i should not have to tamper with its setup anymore. For being such a great solid playing and sounding bass Schecter should have set this up properly from the factory and used a much better truss rod nut for a better connection with the hex key.
