Schecter Guitar Research

collapse expand iconDescription

A unique fusion of Schecter's HELLRAISER and SLS models, the C-1 Hybrid is a combination of the most sought-after features of each. The Hellraiser's signature highly figured quilted Maple top is now redesigned with a more sculptured arch and is set into the Mahogany body with an increased upper access cutaway.

The C-1 features EMG's 57/66 Active humbuckers with Brushed Black metal-works covers and a high gloss transparent black burst finish. Schecter Locking tuners and GraphTech Tusq nuts are standard.

The SLS shares the HH's popular thin, fast neck profile and satin finish. The compound radius ebony fingerboard is adorned with an inverted dot pattern that switches to the treble side at the 15th fret. The Metal Cross, synonymous with the Hellraiser, sits proudly at the 12th fret. A newly designed ˜Carbon fiber' binding and glow-in-the-dark side dots (great for low light live situations) enhance the 2014 Hellraiser Hybrid's metal appearance.

Awesome!

I just got this guitar. My first guitar with active pickups, so it took me a bit to adjust. But it looks amazing, sounds amazing, and the feel is unbelievable. I went to Guitar Center with the intentions of buying another PRS. I've played many high end PRS guitars, and several high end Les Paul's, and this guitar is a $3000 guitar priced under a grand. But after playing this guitar it was the obvious choice. Only con I have is the volume knobs were backwards to me. The neck volume was middle knob, and to me it should be the front knob....so I switched them, wires were long enough, no soldering needed, very easy. I may switch it to passive pickups some day just because of personal preference, but absolutely the quality of a $3000 guitar. Similar priced PRS guitars don't have the detail that this one has with the contours of the body, the binding, the neck. This guitar is just awesome.

Guitar is awesome! Guitar Center is terrible.

First of all, Guitar is awesome in every aspect! I love Schecter and this fit like a glove with my collection of Schecter. My low review is merely to bring attention to how terrible Guitar Center is. I ordered this Guitar online, NEW and in stock. The order was cancelled by GC twice because they said there was system glitch. Then they sent a used guitar. When I returned and said I ordered new, customer service said they had one new in box and not a display model, which they would send immediately. When I got the guitar it was tagged May 2017, had many scratches, and pickup selector switch was damaged. They said since it is a display model it is still considered new. On top of this, they charged the wrong card on file, without permission, which put me over a limit. There response to all of this was to drive to nearest store 30+ miles away and return. They're convenient because they have local stores, but you should really look into other retailers. I won't advertise who I like to use to avoid plugging another retailer, but GC has really slipped in the last few years. It's getting worse as this isn't the first negative experience I've had with them. Just be careful. Their 45 day return policy is the only saving grace.

First of all the set neck/access is incredible. The C1 Hybrid comes with satin portion of the neck and it changes the whole feel of the guitar. I don't know if other models have that but this is definitely worth it. The see thru trans-black is even nicer up close and mine has a slight deep green tint which is just great. The carbon fiber binding is really cool looking and the alumilay dots glow nicely as well. Let's talk pick ups. I've had EMG before but these are different. The PAF 57 in the bridge has more mid-range clarity and the neck 66 does not lack the ability to sustain while not being muddy at all. The build of a guitar can effect the sound and feel greatly but Shecter has done a great job with this one. I've had Jackson's, Ibanez, and lately I'm into Gibson Les Paul, but I wanted something fun, different and easier to get some upper shred on and this thing does it well. By the way I originally purchased an EC-1000 and it was quickly returned for this. I won't bash ESP but not even in the same class.

I was hesitant because of the age of the guitar but I could not find these pickups in others guitar but once I got it in my hands on it, all doubt was instantly gone. Amazing sound and play.

  • Felt like I'd already played it for years

I was not all that familiar with Schecter despite many years of play and visits to Guitar Center. Following several Fenders and Epiphones, I wanted something different and special, with or without active pickups. I played many higher-end models from LTD, PRS, Ibanez, Jackson and more. The Hellraiser Hybrid felt immediately 'normal' and 'natural' like I'd played it for years already (though the guitars do not compare much directly, it felt comfortable in the way my Strat does). Balance is neither neck nor body heavy. The satin neck is so smooth and quick you never have to think about your hand positioning or fretting. Frets comfortable and narrow enough without being skinny; setup from the box was reasonably close and action can be set quite low. Active EMG's look really cool and the sound is a great compliment to the other guitars I play; punchy, crisp and crunchy when pushed, while being loud and clear and offering lasting sustain. Knobs are accessible and give good tactile feedback - and tone actually affects tone somewhat progressively. The nut is well made and the tuners are very linear and spool slowly enough to allow precise tuning. The quilted top is so beautiful and deep (a little dark, but not a complaint); the 'carbon fibre' binding is really sharp looking and a very nice touch. Overall quality and finish are excellent. I love the look. Minor complaint is positioning of the fret dots at the top of the board (then switching to the bottom) rather than the middle, but I don't really have to look at them too often. Glow-in-the-dark dots are visible, though also something I'm rarely in a situation to see. Love the guitar, and a year after purchase still extremely happy with it.

Had this guitar for about a yr, and it sounds really clean for lead part. also, it is pretty crunch sound on rhythm, but not too powerful like EMG 81. Overall quality, I feel these pickups are better than EMG 81, 85. The fretboard is great as good quality of eboby (not cheap ebony), and the neck feels really really smooth and fantastic. I would suggest this guitar to anyone.

I am looking at this guitar. Am I assuming correctly? The major difference between the hybrid and just the Hellraiser is the hybrid has a slimmer neck. Is this correct?

Thank you,

Michael

This guitar has active pickups, so it does require a 9 volt battery.
