Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Hellraiser C-1 Passive with Floyd Rose Trem Electric Guitar:
(Reviewing the Sustainiac model) After many of my favorite guitarists playing schecters,(Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengence, Zack Wylde (of Wylde audio)) I figured I'd give them a try. After digging through many reviews and demos, I decided to order the Dragon Burst Hellraiser passive.
Aesthetics: the attention to detail on the Hellraiser is unbelievable. The abalone binding, arch quilt maple top, even a quilt maple top on the headstock and a great paint job all contribute to what makes this guitar worth the money
Playability: The thin C neck is great, a little thinner than a Les Paul studio, but thick enough to give a quality feel. The lacquer on the neck is not too thick where your hands sticks. It came with 10 gauge strings, which I swapped with 9's out of personal preference. The guitars shape is very comfortable allowing you to play for long periods of time and a cut out on the back makes sure the body doesn't dig into your stomach.
Equipment: The Floyd Rose 1500 is incredible. Having a tremolo arm that stays where you put it, but also being able to move it on the fly is a plus. Obviously restringing takes time, but it is worth it. The Sustainiac is one of the best features of the guitar. Coming with a natural, mix, and octave harmonic, it is loads of fun. I do have the issue where I can not use the active harmonic on my high E string, but this is not a big deal to me. The Schecter Brimstone was one thing I was hesitant about. With being 21k ohms for a passive pickup is outrageous. I was worried about not getting crystal clear cleans but was proven wrong. The pick ups can easily clean up when rolling down the guitar volume when on a decent amount of gain.
Overall: The Schecter Hellraiser Passive FRS plays better than both my Gibson Les Paul Studio and American Strat and does so in fashion providing innovative technology. I will continue to buy from Schecter due to my great experience. If you are considering buying, you will not regret it.
