collapse expand iconDescription

The Schecter CV-5 five-string bass is a smooth, versatile players instrument—but without being overly complicated. It features a 22-fret, thin-C maple neck with carbon fiber reinforcements and a rosewood fretboard. It's all anchored to an ash body with excellent upper-fret access. The powerful Diamond J-Bucker pickups provide crisp, punchy sound. And the controls let you dial in your exact tone, with master tone and volume knobs, a 3-way pickup select and 3-way series/split/parallel switches.

Used mostly for recording and practice. Great looking instrument—the natural finish suits this style of bass. What I particularly like about it is the clarity (some say articulation) of the B string, often the hardest one to get a clear, somewhat "crisp" or unmuddied tone. This bass doesn't seem to have that issue at all. To me, the quality of tone throughout the B string pretty much is a predictor of how well the rest of the pickup(s) will perform. I understand why Schecter did it, but the headstock is large to support in-line tuners…getting to tuning the G string can be quite the stretch. My jury is still out regarding the tuning machines, but they are kinda cool looking (black plastic cover on Hipshot style tuners.

I bought this bass on a whim, and I don't think I could be happier. The pickups have a surprising amount of versatility, and the body is surprisingly lightweight. Only downside is a there's JUST a bit too much neck dive. Nothing to make me wish I didn't buy though. I do recording and play live, and this bass sounds spectacular through everything I've plugged it into. 8/10

First off, I gave this bass 5 stars not because it's a 5 star bass, but because it's outstanding in the price range and "five star" among it's peers in my opinion. I've had a few other Schecter basses and although they were okay, I was never really impressed beyond "it's okay....". I primarily use Fender basses and really am attached to those. But I needed something particular...I was looking for a passive 5 string bass with a maple fretboard and humbucking pickups, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money because this was going to be going out to play at small clubs and venues, and I didn't want to be heartbroken (or poor) if this was stolen or damaged. This looked like it fit the bill and my experience with Schecter is that you don't get a BAD bass...so I gave it a shot. Honestly, I'm really glad I did. First off, this bass is not without flaws. It has a certain "unfinished" feel to it, being a little rough around the cutouts for the pickups, the frets are a little rough, and I'm certain they're not totally level, but in terms of playability for the average person or part-timer like me it's acceptable if not pretty good. The setup was not what I look for, but honestly it was completely playable out of the box with just a quick string tune. The finish is very, very good at this price range. The switches are okay, but not complete noiseless (I guess you can't expect that in this price range). It balances well and feels pretty good, although it's definitely solid (or, "heavy", which I actually don't mind). I started playing this bass and honestly I've been putting it through the paces for a few weeks now. Where this bass shines, and why I gave it the rating, is in the versatility of sound. None of my other basses give me the versatility of sound that this bass gives me with the options run the pickups parallel, series, or split. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive bass with a variety of sounds, this may be for you. For me, it's a keeper.

  • i Just got it and this Bass is amazing for its price range.

I've been playing for a long time and have played many different makes and model basses. I primarily settled for playing Fender bass guitars. I stepped away from playing music for about 6 years and decided to get back into playing. I needed to buy a 5-string bass and went to a bunch of local music stores including a nearby Guitar Center. None of the basses seemed to be well made and I was getting really annoyed by this until I picked up this Schecter. This bass totally fit me well. It felt right, sounded great and has quality written all over it. Just played it for the the first time with the band today and it has totally exceeded my expectations. Good going Schecter for a well made all around good bass. Highly recommend this to a bassist of any genre.

  • Absolutely the best sounding and factory setup.

I am a 63 year old musician that started playing in 1965 and has never stopped. I have played bass guitars in every price range up to around 3 grand. This passive bass is absolutely the best sounding, best playing bass in its price range I have ever purchased. It has a very percussive punchy sound and kind of a rugged but warm feel to it.You want be disappointed if your looking for that classic rock bass sound that came out of the sixty's.

guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Bass guitars are generally between 8 – 9.5 lbs. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it.

All I need to know is if you happen to know if these cv 5er's will still be available march 2019? I have searched for months and I have decided on this particular bass in 3 tone sunburst. But would rather buy new then used.

That would be up to the manufacturer, sometimes they will discontinued models or colors so we can't guarantee that we will still have any at that time. But in the event of them being sold out we can also reach out to the manufacturer to find out if they have one available for purchase.
