Description
The Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum FR S electric guitar delivers the high-output tones and fast playability that metal guitarists crave. Its mahogany body provides a resonant foundation for the active EMG 81 (bridge) and Sustainiac (neck) humbucking pickups, which produce aggressive tones with endless sustain. The Floyd Rose Special tremolo bridge enables radical divebombs while keeping the guitar in tune.
Sustainiac Pickup Generates Infinite Sustain
The Sustainiac pickup in the neck position can produce infinite sustain at the touch of a switch. By using magnetic fields to vibrate the strings, this pickup sustains notes far beyond their normal decay. Guitarists can unleash otherworldly squeals, drones, and harmonics or use the effect more subtly to fatten up power chords and single notes.
EMG 81 Pickup Delivers Cutting High-Gain Tone
The EMG 81 active humbucker in the bridge position provides the tight, high-output tone that modern metal demands. With its focused midrange and well-defined low end, the EMG 81 pickup cuts through dense mixes with ease while retaining note clarity. The 9-volt battery powering the pickups also provides a noise-free signal chain for silent performance between songs.
Ultrafast Neck and Cutaway for Shredding Leads
The C-1 Platinum FR S features a 3-piece maple neck with a thin profile and 24 extra-jumbo frets for lightning-fast leads and legato runs. An Ultra Access cutaway provides unfettered access to the upper frets. The 12"–16" compound radius rosewood fretboard has a flatter surface along the treble side for more comfortable bendings and wider interval stretches.
Premium Components and Construction
From the Grover tuners to the chrome hardware and binding, premium components are used throughout the C-1 Platinum FR S. The guitar is professionally set up in Schecter's California workshop to strict quality standards before shipping to provide the best playing experience out of the box.

Great guitar plus Sustainiac at a bargain price
I got this guitar primarily because of the Sustainiac pickup - a feature that's kind of understated in the product description. You can get a detailed rundown of this pickup on the Sustainiac website; but in short: when the sustain function is switched off, it's a normal pickup; when on, it uses the signal from the bridge-position pickup to create an electromagnetic field that vibrates the strings, effectively duplicating what amp feedback does, except at any volume. If you're familiar with the E-Bow, it works on the same principle, except that you don't have to hold something in your hand, and it works on all the strings simultaneously. It's an amazing device: at the least, it allows you to get literally infinite sustain out of a note; with the harmonic selector switch, it allows you to get incredible overtones that exceed even what you can get out of a cranked amp - without damaging your hearing or your relationship with your neighbors. About the guitar itself: first of all, it was an unbeatable deal, with a rebate offer for a free hardshell case and a Guitar Center promotion that knocked off another $150 (yow!) But at any price it would still be an impressive instrument: a beautiful dark burst border fading into a wine-red flame maple top, nicely contoured and completed with a matte-silver binding; and hardware (trem bridge, knobs, tuners) with the same matte-silver chrome finish. The instrument seems very accurately built; the Floyd Rose Special trem/bridge works smoothly, and intonation and string height were good right out of the box. (Really. I'm skeptical when people say that in reviews, but it's true.) This is my first guitar with an active pickup - the EMG 81 in the bridge - and I like it a lot: the preamp built into the pickup effectively acts as sort of a compressor, creating a consistently higher output with more sustain than a passive humbucker. Add the natural sustaining properties of a set neck, and even without boosted gain it has terrific natural sustain. Add the Sustainiac, and... well, you can imagine. No regrets in adding this guitar to my stable.

Mixed Feeling
I bought this to create weird and ethereal sounds with effects from my Boss ME-80 like Tera Echo. I had some issues getting the guitar tuned and setup as it differs from my Steinberger floating tremolo system. After a lot of internet searching I got it dialed in and found it to be pretty cool. The guitar had no buzz, good intonation well finished frets which are huge and I like them. It is a pretty heavy guitar but no heavier than my Les Pauls. It really annoyed me that Schecter did not provide any documentation or tools. This is a very sophisticated piece of equipment and its operation is not intuitively obvious. Also it has two 9V battery compartments which were real devils to get open. They should not be putting in cheap compartments on an active pickup system where frequent battery changes may be needed. I should not have to pry open plastic doors with Xiem tools so that the plastic doesn't break. Just sayin. But to get the sounds and tones, you have to pay these intangible prices.. I recommend it to get the sounds but be forewarned that little things may get you PO'ed. Oh the beautiful maple quilt is almost invisible due to the dark over spray. It would have been much better if Schecter. had left some brightness on the quilt which really is quite a good piece of timber. Opportunity lost.

I took it out of the box and it had a broken string. They replaced it. When I got home it broke again. The stability of the Floyd is very bad, replace it and you will be fine. They replaced all the strings, it broke again. Also the sustainiac makes noise in harmonic mode, nice guitar tho
Beautiful Guitar!

I like the sound quality. I had to return my first one because 3 of the frets had a buzz. The sustain is awesome and so worth buying this guitar. I recommend!

Bought this guitar used (2015, Korean made) to get the Floyd Rose, 24 frets and the Sustainiac/Active pickups. Fun and high quality for the price. In response to another review, when not in use, be sure to unplug your cord and turn Sustainiac switch off to avoid battery drain.
I returned it

The craftsmanship on this guitar is impeccable however the sustainer function had dead frets and the circuitry in the cavity is poorly designed..it's packed in the cavity in a most sloppy manner..I returned it.

Is the guitar worth it without the special sustain function, which I don't care about?
Yes, it is.submitted4 months ago

IS the Floy Rose bridge of this guitar also a floating bridge?
Yes, the Floyd Rose bridge on a Schecter C1 guitar is considered a "floating bridge" because it is designed to pivot slightly on its mounting points, allowing the strings to exert equal tension on both the bridge and the back of the guitar body, enabling significant pitch bending with the whammy bar while maintaining tuning stability; this is a key characteristic of a Floyd Rose system.submitted6 months ago

Hi, Can you tell me which country this guitar was made in, and can it be properly set up in either your La Mesa or San Ysidro stores? Also, it was mentioned that there is a hard case available as a free option, what case is it, and when could I pick the guitar up if purchased. Thank you, gg...
The C-1 is made in Korea. The guitar will be set up by Schecter. I'm not aware of a case as a free option. A case is not included. Our standard delivery time is 3 to 5 business days.submitted3 years ago
