Overview

The Roland TD-17KVX electronic drum set is the top-tier model in Roland's new TD-17 Series. It's underscored by quality sounds, large responsive mesh pads, easy-to-use features and training tools, and sturdy, rugged reliability. Powered by the TD-17 drum module, the TD-17KVX also features a larger PDX-12 dual-trigger mesh snare pad which feels more like an acoustic snare with a shallower rim, sensitive PDX-8 dual-trigger mesh tom pads, dynamic and realistic-feeling KD-10 kick trigger, two CY-12C dual-trigger crash V-Cymbals, a larger CY-13R three-way ride V-Cymbal, advanced VH-10 V-Hi-Hat and the solid, versatile MDS-4KVX drum stand.

The stand out features of the TD-17KVX are definitely the larger cymbal pads and the advanced VH-10 V-Hi-Hat. The new VH-10 V-Hi-Hat features excellent playability, and realistic hi-hat performance. The “floating” design mounts on a standard acoustic hi-hat stand, has a dual trigger cymbal pad, and faithfully recreates every hi-hat nuance. Whether the hi-hat is fully open, closed or any variation in between, the VH-10 responds naturally and accurately. Even hi-hat heel splashes can be played with ease.

Another outstanding feature is the built-in Bluetooth for streaming music or MIDI from a smart device, allowing you to learn, record tracks or just play along with your favorite songs.

The TD-17KVX also includes the new KD-10 Kick Trigger Pad; a sturdy, solid kick pad with amazing dynamic response that matches how you play, allowing you to play delicately or as hard as you can. The KD-10 Kick Trigger Pad lets you use your single or double pedal setup with ease.

In addition, the TD-17KVX comes with the new PDX-12, a 12" dual-ply mesh head pad with incredible sensitivity and response across the entire surface of the drum head, providing a great feeling, acoustic-like playing experience. The PDX-12 also recreates rim shots and cross stick techniques with ease thanks to its shallower hoop.

The TD-17 Drum Sound Module features a new set of sounds based on Roland’s popular flagship TD-50. The module is packed with over 300 quality drums, percussion and effects sounds, and 100 kits (50 preset, 50 user) to cover any genre. The TD-17 module also includes the ability to import sounds—a first for V-Drums kits in this price range. Combined with built-in sounds and easy sound editing, creating your own custom sounds and kits are virtually limitless. You can even record your performances and save your playing on a standard SDHC card. In addition to the amazing sounds and customization abilities, the TD-17 has a powerful learning tool called Coach Mode that has several different modes within. You can play along to a metronome and the TD-17 will show you in real-time if you're speeding up, dragging or right on the click. You can also keep track of how well you kept time with a calculated percentage of accuracy.

Comments about Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums Electronic Drum Set:

I purchased the Roland TD-11 KV about a month ago. The pads were a little small, but they were very nice for compact drums. I got an email this week about the KV-17 series. I went online to check them out. For the price difference, I took the TD-11's back and paid the difference to upgrade to the TD-17 KVX kit. I was willing to wait for a kit to come in, however the Oklahoma City location just received their first kit! While the TD-11 and TD-17 both have basically the same rack (other than a few extras on the TD-17 rack) - the TD-17 KVX KIT is AMAZING! Here are the differences and the amazing perks (1) 12" SNARE with three - 8" toms (2) HI-HAT that attaches to a REAL hi-hit hat stand (3) Sounds from the TD-50 module (4) TWO Crash cymbals and a Ride. All of the cymbals work as a ride or crash depending on how you strike them, and (5) an all new Kick Drum! I can't say enough about this kit. Compare them to the TD-25. I would not pay the extra $1,000. Check out the TD-17 KVX series. The only down side is the side-stick or ride bell are not as present as I would like them to be. Otherwise, Great Drums! You can't beat the deal (pardon the pun).

Comments about Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums Electronic Drum Set:

I purchased this to play with a guitar and bass players in small clubs. The sound is great. The feel of the drums is very good. It's fairly easy to transport. The labeled cords makes it very easy to hook up the pads and cymbals. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums Electronic Drum Set:

Was debating spending much more on a TD-50 but was pleased at this midrange option. The sound is great (especially over headphones), the heads play well.

Agree that finding the right "ride" spot is a challenge, but the flexibility of the settings is impressive, and overall looking forward to playing and home-studio recording with this lovely set.

Comments about Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums Electronic Drum Set:

I started with the TD 11 then upgraded to TD 17KV and then finally upgraded to the TD 17 KVX. Now I feel content with my drums. I am not even a drummer. I thought I will get drums to improve my timing but now I just love playing drums. It has meditation like effect by playing the same rhythm over and over for a long time.

Personally, after all my research, this is the sweet spot in electronic drums.

Comments about Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums Electronic Drum Set:

The pads feel like real drums and have great sensitivity. Hits are registered very well, and without double triggering. I only have two issues...
                1. Hitting the edge of the cymbals without full power results in a sound that is more like lightly hitting the top of the cymbal with the tip of the stick. No idea why someone thought this was how hitting it like that would sound on a real cymbal.
                2. Hi-Hat sensitivity for the stand is weird. In order to get a sizzling sound, you have to set your highhat to raise at least a full inch. Otherwise it's impossible to quickly go from tight to loose hats sound because hitting the high hat naturally causes it to tilt some, which presses down on the button that tells the module how high the hat is raised, making it think the hat has been lowered in the middle of a hit. The only way to avoid that as much as possible is by raising the hat more than it would necessarily take on a real hi-hat.
