Roland PDX-8 V Drum Electronic Drum Pad 8 in.

This is a great addition to my hybrid drum set up.

I replaced my Alesis Crimson snare with this pad. It works great. I have actually gone through two Alesis pads that came with the crimson kit in about 5 years. I can see through the mesh head that the wiring and sodering in this roland pad is way better. It looks to me that its 3 times as thick and there is no thin plastic piazo base that might break as in the Alesis pads. I wish I had just bought this replacement instead of trying to fix the Alesis pads. The sensor is not in the middle of the drum head so that should cut down on the impact. Hopefully this thing should last forever. I use the lightest sticks at guitar center. The triggering seems to be slightly more responsive than the Alesis pads as well. I see roland has come a long way in the las 15 years and I think my next kit might actually be a Roland. I will for sure be replacing my Alesis pads with these if any more go out but it seems that only the snare ever goes out on me so I think I'm set for a long long time.

In early 2006 I purchased this drum set for my practice space, one of the sensors lost contact due to corrosion(something spilled on it a very long time ago) I bought the replacement pad, set is good as new, with some improvements over the old sensor, sensitivity had to be turned down from stock setting as the feel is more natural than the original. I am old still soaking sensor with corrosion inhibitor in hopes of reviving so as to have a back-up or use as alternate sound pad.

I own 3 of these pads. Currently I have them set up as toms 1-3 in my td-8 kit. These pads have as good a feel as any of the other mesh head roland pads I own. When used as a snare, I found positional sensing was not as accurate, as with my pd-85 or pd-125. As a bonus I have been able to reliably trigger rim sounds on my td-8 with these pads,by stiking the rim at the 7 or 5 o'clock position, which is something I was unable to do with PD-85's. Overall I would recommend this as an upgrade from any gum rubber pad, and I love them as tom replacements.

I Started off with a cheap set that was pretty good by alesis. I slowly upgraded to some used roland PD-6 pads which were alot better. Then I got a Pintech Mesh Head Snare Which was good but then I got the PDX-8 for my snare and some used PD-80 pads for my Toms. There really is no comparison. The Roland stuff is so much better in my opinion. It feels better it seems more responsive. I have become a firm believer in the Roland gear and have replaced everything on my set a couple pieces at a time. This PDX-8 is very light but quite durable. The Light weight is good for Rack Systems. The Rim Shots are much more natural than what I experienced on my Pintech Snare that I was using. The Pintech was good but the Roland is just a little better and more responsive in my opinion.

When I first saw the PDX-8, I thought it was a cool looking drum. When I first picked it up, I was a little leary because it felt really light, and I wasn't too sure of the plastic base. I should have known better, it's a Roland. I've had a pair of them for a month now, and I have used them as snares and toms. They seem to be holding up, and I have come to appreciate the fact that they are lighter. I somehow think it won't cause so much stress on my MDS-6SL. I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the PDX-8.
