Overview

RODELink represents the next generation of digital wireless systems. Using a Series II 2.4GHz digital transmission with 128-bit encryption, it is able to constantly monitor and hop between frequencies to maintain the strongest possible signal level at a range of up to 100 m (over 100 yards). The RODELink Newsshooter Kit provides everything you need to start shooting video wirelessly with XLR microphones, including a camera-mounted receiver and an XLR transmitter. The receiver (RX-CAM) features an OLED display with information on level, battery status (receiver and transmitter), mute and channel selection. The unit can be mounted on a standard camera shoe mount, 3/8 in. thread or belt-clip, and for added versatility the shoe mount can be located in one of two positions. The transmitter (TX-XLR) easily connects to handheld presentation microphones as well as shotgun microphones, with a 3.5mm input and headphone output.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCC's wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Product delivers performance

Comments about Rode Microphones RODELink Newsshooter Kit:

I use a JVC GY-HM600 camera with the cold shoe for the video light, so I added a second cold shoe mount to the 1/4 threads on the camera handle. Works great for wedding reception interviews. Battery life indicators aren't really covered in the instructions, but I found the transmitter green light starts blinking when the batteries get low and the TX bars on the receiver tell the camera op whats left as well. Love the idea that a NP-F battery can run the transmitter, as my lights use the same battery. My camera has a Swit S-8I50 battery with a USB power port and I tried running USB power to the receiver to get rid of AAs. However, you get a terrible ground loop noise when you plug audio into the camera. I had to add a custom built DC isolated connection between the receiver and camera audio to fix it. Otherwise, just use AA batteries as they last a long time. This camera has a 3.5mm stereo aux input port, which works with the receiver, but I'm adapting the 1/8 cable to one of the XLR inputs so I can split the channels and capture both wireless and on camera sound at the same time.

Comments about Rode Microphones RODELink Newsshooter Kit:

I got this for interviews and it works just fine. Setup took longer than i expected but once it's paired, you're ready to take on the world.
I think it is just way overpriced.
