Overview

DeepMind 12 is a true analog, 12-voice polyphonic synthesizer that allows you to design virtually any sound you can imagine. Thanks to its four FX engines, dual analog OSCs and LFOs per voice, three ADSR Generators, 8-Channel Modulation Matrix and onboard 32-Step Sequencer, DeepMind 12 gives you complete control over your soundscape. Plus, DeepMind 12 features comprehensive remote control via iPad/PC/Mac and selected Android apps over USB, MIDI or built-in Wi-Fi. This is the sound of the past, made for players and producers of today.

Classic Polyphonic Synthesizer
The inspired synthesizer tracks laid down in the 1970s and '80s are etched in the annals of progressive rock and pop music forever, making them truly classic in every sense of the word. DeepMind 12’s pure analog signal path with legendary IR3109-style VCFs, stereo VCAs, and 12-voice polyphony lets you recreate all that magic or design the powerful, original sounds that just might make you a legend in your own right.

Glorious 12-Note Polyphony
Playing chords and building textural soundscapes requires the ability to generate multiple notes or sounds simultaneously. While early analog synthesizers were either monophonic (only 1 note at a time), or somewhat limited in the number of sounds they could produce at the same time, the DeepMind 12 boosts your creativity with 12-note polyphony. Each voice has 2 oscillators, with OSC 1 generating sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms with pulse width modulation, and OSC 2 generates square/pulse waveforms with a unique tone modulation. With 24 oscillators at your disposal, a tremendous range of options becomes available including the following oscillator modes: Unison 12, 6, 4, 3, 2 Mono; Mono -2; Mono 4; Mono 6; Poly; Poly 6, and Poly 8. The addition of oscillator sync, oscillator drift and parameter drift allow the recreation of the much sought after warmth and movement found in vintage analog synthesizers, with greatly improved reliability and stability.

The FX Racks
Behringer included four simultaneous FX engines with over 33 world-class TC ELECTRONIC, MIDAS and KLARK TEKNIK algorithms – including Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Delay, Multiband Distortion, and many more. Custom-designed and physically modeled after some of the most iconic and sought-after processors, DeepMind 12’s FX were essentially "rebuilt" in the digital domain and put right at your fingertips. All effects run inside the low-latency environment of the DeepMind 12, ensuring flawless performance and flexible routing.

Makes me want to sell my vintage gear

By Locosynth

Comments about Behringer DeepMind 12 True Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer:

Incredible sounds. First "Vintage" synth I have played new since the 1980's. Brings modern routing and features to pure vintage sound, allowing you to go beyond what the Juno-60/106 could do. Incredible for the price.

Comments about Behringer DeepMind 12 True Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer:

I originally bought a Korg Minilogue which was fine for the price. But I found some limitations for me: only 4 voices (I ran out of voices often), only 3 octave keyboard, mini-sized keys (OK but threw me off going back to my piano), only one effect (a noisy delay), a clicking VCA, no mod wheel, mono output.

I returned it and got the DeepMind 12. Though it was twice the price, I feel it was 10 times the synth. A real, professional tool with 12 voices, a full-sized 4-octave keyboard, a ton of effects, a real pitch bend and mod wheel, no VCA click, and stereo output. Like night and day.

The base sound is fine, and allows plenty of complexity. Controls are very well thought out for both quick/simple use and for people who want to do things like try the 22,000 different combinations of modulation sources and destinations.

For me, the ability to add multiple effects (including reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, compressor, distortion) really improves the appeal. I don't lay down tracks and I don't play in a band; I just play by myself with the DM12 as the sole sound source. The effects add depth, richness, and lushness. This sounds good on its own and it also helps if I'm trying to emulate popular synth sounds and songs.

The build quality is good. No problems with the keyboard or sliders.

Downsides: Not easy to set up for live performance where you need to get to a patch quickly. Though there are 1024 (!) presets, too many are pads or EDM ambient evolving soundscapes. Not enough presets are emulations of conventional instruments or even of widely-used synth patches; you'd have to make your own. No straightforward note sequencer; it is possible to assign the control sequencer to pitch but that's bassackwards IMHO.

If I didn't know the price I'd think it was $2500-3000. At $999 -- or less during a sale! -- it is a great value.

    Market Perception

    By 432

Comments about Behringer DeepMind 12 True Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer:

Behringer shifted at least on person's market perspective of their company with one product! 12 voice polyphonic synth with great effects and wood sides. I love it! The oscillators are a little thin and the vcf is not as sweet as my other analog synths, but it is nonetheless my favorite synth that I have touched. It is wonderful playing a poly analogue syn that has such control. The construction seems to be solid. I would like to see a master tune feature. 432 Hz A lines up with nature and mathematics in remarkably harmonious relationships, whereas 440 A does not [tangential, but worth mentioning!].

Love this synth - a little noisy on certain patches. Overall very happy though, especially for the price. Got a great deal on Behringer gig bag that fits it perfectly.
