Remo

collapse expand iconDescription

Remo Powersonic bass drum heads give the drummer controlled midrange and low end for the most powerful bass drum sound right out of the box. Powersonic bass drum heads are constructed of 2-ply 7-mil Mylar with two specifically placed internal subsonic dampening rings with External Snap-on Dampening System (ESDS) technology. The two mounted 3/4" internal dampening rings enhance low end without affixing trays or hard-backed dampening materials to the drum head. This is an 18" head.

The unique patent-pending ESDS system employs snaps mounted directly to the drum head to eliminate the possibility of vibration. This allows you to easily customize your muffling, feel and sustain for different playing situations by "snapping" the strategically placed weighted pillow to the drum head. Also included is the Falam Slam for added attack and durability.

A Suprised Evans Friend

Well I went to my local store to pick up an Evans Emad head, and I was told they had ran out earlier that day. I need a kick head and I was leaving out of town with my drums the next morning. I decided to go ahead and give the powersonic a try.....WOW....What a great suprise. It had more bottom end then I could ever ecpect from a head. And It was so deep and punchy. Great Head Guys

Terrible design

I've always used the Emad bass drum head but after a few weeks the plastic rings on those always come unglued and crack off no longer holding the muffling onto the head. When this new Remo design first came out it seemed like a fantastic one compared to the emad, so I had to try it out. I got home with my new powersonic head, pulled it out of the box and the foam rings were already coming unglued. I went back to GC and returned it for another which seemed to be in excellent condition. I got home, put it on, tuned it up and started jamming. After about 20 minutes of playing the foam rings on the inside of the 2nd head started coming unglued again. I then had to take it off, reglue it, put it back on and tune it up again. What a hassel! So i played with it glued on for quite some time and after adjusting the snap on dampening system many times it eventually started to rip the snap out of the head. I'm about to try out the Aquarian superkick. I've heard only great things about it so far and I have recorded a drummer with this head and it sounded fantastic.

I needed to replace my well worn EMAD2 kick head but noticed this one was cheaper...and since I've also had some issues with externally mounted triggers on the EMAD figured try it out. Pleasantly surprised! Paired with an Evans EQ pillow inside the bass drum (omitting that silly stick on pillow it comes provided with) this head had tons of low end and pleasant attack, especially combined with just the standard clear impact patches. Stiff enough for a solid pedal feel for double bass. Definitely a fan of this.

Installed on a Ludwig Classic Maple and it didn't sound great. It mic'ed up well and felt okay but I think I prefer an EMAD 2 and I know I prefer a Superkick.

This is the second Powersonic bass drum head I've purchased and can't see a reason to purchase another style/brand. I have one on my 22" Starclassic bass drum and now have purchased a new Zoowersonic for my 18" bass drum replacing an Evans EMAD. Evans heads are great and I used the EQ3 resonant and batter bass drum heads for most of the 90's and 2000's; however, the low end extends and the musical tone and tumble of the Remo Powersonic is impressive. It's versatile as well being able to easily remove the snap on dampening pad if you wasn't less resonance and more punch. I don't use it at all on my 22" which primarily never leaves my church's sanctuary. The wide open space absorbs and benefits from the extra resonance sans dampening. I like the extra control for my travel set playing in smaller venues and practice if at home. Really happy with the performance.

  • I will DEFINITELY Buy this again

This is the second Powesonic bass drum head I've purchased. I've used Evans EQ3 ans EMAD heads for decades. I purchased the first one 4 years ago for my 22" bass drum and loved the bottom end and musicality of the head. I recently built a custom drum set around an 18" Tama Imperialstar floor tom from the 80's (I still own the set it belongs to). I converted the floor tom into a bass drum and went back to the Evans EMAD batter and resonant combo with a 5" port in the resonant head.I was attempting to duplicate the sound of the original 24" bass by using the Evans combo that I used in the 90's. It sounded great; tight and punchy but a bit too high pitched and a bit on the overdamped side. I tried loosening the head and taking out one of the dampening rings but couldn't get the sound I was looking for. So, I purchased another Remo Powersonic and paired it with a Powerstroke 3 Ebony (no port). Perfect. It totally changed the sound; much more bottom end. It plays louder and sounds more musical with just the right amount of resonance with the dampening pad attached. I also tried it with the EMAD resonant head w/ the 5" port and the sound was a bit punchier but with the same deep low end. I'm going to purchase another Powerstroke 3 with a 5" port for when I want to mic or change the sound a bit. I couldn't be happier with the sound.

I have been unsuccessful getting the sound that I wanted out of my bass drum until I received this product and put it to work. I love it.
