Overview

An old favorite has just returned to the Regal line of Resophonic guitars-it's the Regal RD-05 acoustic bass guitar! The Regal RD-05 is the acoustic bass you can hear in any playing situation with a deep, rich tone that can be heard above all the other instruments. It responds just as well in the studio as it responds on the stage and the built-in resonator cone amplifying system gives you as big a tone as many conventional acoustic basses. However the RD-05 is somewhat compact and easy to manage unlike those large and cumbersome acoustic basses.

Features

  • Spruce top
  • Mahogany back, sides and neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard with M.O.P. dot position markers
  • Multi-ply ivoroid bound body and bound fingerboard
  • Unique tortoise-style peghead overlay

  • Spun 10-1/2" aluminum cone
  • Rock maple sound well
  • Sealed die-cast tuners with 15:1 gear ratio
  • 17th-fret neck/body joint, 23 frets total

Comments about Regal RD-05 Resonator Bass Guitar:

This thing looks great, nice finish, bridge set up is a bit sketchy. The sound is bright and growly. With a bit of set up tweaking this bass will be a really great guitar.

Comments about Regal RD-05 Resonator Bass Guitar:

This thing looks and sounds great. The finish is very impressive for this price range. You won't get a louder acoustic bass without getting an upright. The sound is similar to the low keys on a bright sounding piano. The feel is nice, the frets are nice, and it comes set up decent. The intonation on the E isn't great, but usable.
I had a Luna Tribal short scale that I returned. This thing is only about $100 more, but is way nicer and way louder with much better quality. Breedlove is double the price, and doesn't seem as nice, or as loud. If you want a bass you actually use acoustically, this is probably the one you want.
My only real compliants is finger noise on the strings.
So I am going to look for some flatwounds. It had a tag that said D'addario strings, but when I emailed the manufacturer to find out which set they are so I could compare tension, they said they are actually GHS Supersteels ML5000 strings.
My other complaint is no case.
I emailed Levy's and it looks like the CCG120 will be a good fit, but I haven't ordered it yet.

Comments about Regal RD-05 Resonator Bass Guitar:

This thing is way cool. It's probably the loudest acoustic bass you can get without getting an upright. I had a Luna Tribal before this that I ended up returning. It was way quieter, and the quality was way lacking. This bass was only about $100 more, but the quality on it is surprisingly extremely nice. I can't get over the feel and the finish. Thw redish part of the the sunburst actually looks more brownish in person, but for some reason comes out red in pictures. The neck is nice, the frets are nice, and it comes set up pretty decent too. If you are looking for an acoustic bass because you actually want to play acoustically, then you probably want this bass. Thw sound is similar to the low keys on a bright sounding piano.
I didn't get what the hype about Breedlove was all about. This thing looks, feels, plays, and sounds alot nicer for half the price. My only real compliants are I don't like the finger noise, some I'm going to look for some flatwounds. I don't know if I'll need to use strings with out silk or not. It came with a tag that said D'addario strings, but I emailed rhe manufacturer, and they said it actually came with GHS Super Steels ML5000.
And I wish it had a case.
I've read alot of specs, and seems like the Levy's CCG120 will fit it, but I haven't ordered it yet.
