Overview

The Control16 from VENUE is a robust, 16-channel DMX controller that provides simple, elegant control of multiple lighting fixtures. Configured as four banks of four faders, each bank operates an independent 4-channel controller with access to manual color mixing, pre-set color pallets, strobe, chase, and blackout functions. The VENUE Control16 color pallets are designed to work with any lighting fixture using a standard DMX 3-channel RGB mode. The 4th fader can be used to control Amber, White, or UV color mixing for Quad LED fixtures. When combined with VENUE’s TriThin38LED, TriThin64LED and TriStrip3Z, it produces plenty of complementary and contrasting lighting effects that will wow the crowd all night long.

Comments about Proline Venue Control16 16-Channel DMX Controller:

So this will give you some basic control over your lights, but in terms of what you can do, it's pretty limited. I got mine with a set of 4 thinTri's. My two options were setting them all to the same address, so they'll all do the same thing, or setting them each to their own address (which are fixed on this unit: 1,5,9,13). Your gut tells you to give them each their own address so you can control them separately, right? The advantage would be to create better "scenes" with multiple colors or perhaps chases of blinking lights.
But that's the thing - aside from being able to slowly control settings on each individual light you can't do much. You could set two lights as one color and two lights as another, but there's no way to save this as a preset, so you can't go back to it quickly when needed.

The other thing you might want to do is program "chases" with blinking lights, but from what I can tell, if you set all lights to chase, they'll blink on and off or change/fade colors all together. Not very advantageous considering you could do this with all lights on the same address. You can kind of get some variation if you turn chase on for all units and then adjust the speed for each individually, but then you end up with a kind of chaotic rainbow rather than structured patterns.

That being said, it does give you some control. It could work great as a cheap solution for controlling up-lights or mood lighting. My hope was to use it for running lights on the fly for live bands. It will do this too, but honestly it seems like the best option is controlling them all at once (or even setting them all to the same address) and using the color presets to change color on the beat, or sometimes the sound-activated mode does some interesting things. If you're controlling colors though, I find it's much easier to keep "strobe" on and just turn the speed fader all the way down to turn it off. You can change colors to the beat and strobe, but I was hoping for more chase control

Comments about Proline Venue Control16 16-Channel DMX Controller:

I'm new to DMX lighting. I purchased this Venue Control 16 a couple days ago with a couple Venue Thintri 64 lights for band lighting. Basically what I've found about this controller is... it will control 4 banks with 4 channels.... what this means is, each bank can be 0-1-2-3-4etc lights all run the same color/ brightness... you could use say 4 lights on a tree, on each side of the stage which is 8 lights, but only a max of 4 controls color/brightness. All 8 cannot be independently controlled with this unit.
Now.. the lights let me set the starting channel and such.. one dmx setting is 3 or 8 channel.. 3 channel control is RGB. ( one on each channel). 8 channel control is red, green, blue, white, strobe/speed, mode(fade, pulse, sound active, etc), dimmer, and dimmer speed. Each on one of the 8 channels.
So, with this Venue control 16 dmx controller, I need to set the lights to 3 channel operation since choices are 3 or 8, and controller is automatically set to 4 channels. (This uses 3 channels and the 4th channel on each bank is not used). Also the addresses are preset so, light/bank1 starts at channel 1, light/bank2 starts at ch5, light/bank 3 starts at ch9, and light/bank4 starts at ch13.
What this means is I have RGB control over the lights. 4 lights/bank of lights. Which will work for us.
What I'm not seeing... (I am new to it so I'm not saying it can't be done...) is, setting pre-set scenes and being able to scroll through them. It does have a blackout button, sound control, and some other features I haven't spent much time figuring out yet, and the manual is quite basic. For the price, it does the job
