No need for a practice pad. And you won't bother the neighbors. I have yet to cut one, but I can't see that being very difficult. They feel like a mouse pad.

If you are living in an apartment or in a situation that you have to almost not hear your drums then they are too thin, but if you are living in a house then they would be ok. You could double up with evans or something similar and it might be enough for those silent situations. Fot the bass drum you might want to try a Silent stroke for the silent situation. The more difficult thing to stop is the percussive effect of the bass drum pedal. Maybe putting down a drum pad would help.

I havent been able to use it long enough to see if the top layer will hold up. I have noticed that other mutes are thicker and muffle better. If I were living in a house I would say that they muffle enough but I live in a town home and my neighbors complained to the hoa and I am using thicker mutes. The other mutes started to grind apart on me within a month and a half. I have a silent stroke on my bass drum it has reduced the sound a lot more than the other mute and putting a pillow against the front head has made it almost silent. I am getting a percussive shake which is almost impossible to get rid of.
