Snappy snare, wide vocal range

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Birch/Maple Shell Snare Drum:

I felt the need to write a review on this beauty as it only had one existing review, and it deserves much more! I have owned the vented little squealer for about 2 years now and man does this thing sound good. The range is unbelievable for the price. Tune it low, get sharp warmth. Tune it mid, get a nice resonant "crack." Tune it high and this thing will cut through anything. BIG upgrade from any standard kit snare, and one that rivals those twice its price from an overall value and quality standpoint. I typically use this snare in live applications because of its open (vented) form factor, but also use it to record in some instances. It does record well, but tends to bleed a bit more than a closed form factor snare. Overall, I give this 5 stars because it can be used for either live or recording, and it is one of the most versatile and wide ranging snares I have used to date. Best of luck!

This baby is perfect!!!

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Birch/Maple Shell Snare Drum:

Just bought this bad boy yesterday! Sounds a little dry with stock heads but as soon as you switch to an aquarian triple threat, your all set! Has a nice attack and crack to it.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Birch/Maple Shell Snare Drum:

My one downside is it doesn't like one ply heads. Not that it doesn't sound good, it just doesn't want to stay tuned with one on.

I own 7 snares and have played 5 tines that many, and this one keeps me coming back. One of the biggest sounding snare drums I have ever played and TONS of character with that. Tuned tight with a moon gel or some tape, it sounds nasty. Of the 20 churches I have played for over the years, every sound guy loves this snare. Don't hesitate to buy it and for the price point it's competing with, it's in the ring with other drums 3 times this price.
