Comments about Pork Pie Hip Pig 3-Piece Mahogany shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:
I initally got this kit for it's sizes. I play a lot of indie rock, but I prefer a punchier bass drums so the the 14 inch depth was a big sell point for me, plus easy for transport.
Man, the pictures don't give it justice how beautiful this kit is. I thought the gold was going to be more white looking, but you get a classic red to gold fade. Looks great, even under bad lighting.
The sounds is incredible, and I haven't even changed the stock heads with it yet. Big, warm full sound. A little less attack when you initially hit the drum in comparison to modern drums, but still plenty enough for a rock and roll gig, and those toms are MONSTERS. You probably will want a moon gel for the floor tom, cause that thing can rumble like a tank. The sustain can be a bit longer than average but nothing a moongel or O-ring can't solve.
The only thing I can possibly say that's a negative for this kit is probably the stock bass drum head. Definitely not a bad stock head at all. But I would like a little more punch with it. Different head combos can easily change up the sound of this kit.
If you're looking for a versatile kit with a full, warm, slightly vintage sound. JUMP ON THIS KIT! BTW, you can get add on sizes from Pork Pie Percussions website like for 18 x 16 floor tom.
