Comments about Pioneer DDJ-RB Portable 2-Channel DJ Controller for Rekordbox DJ:

If you compare this to the DDJ SR you are saving $100 off the bat... (this is basically the same unit but SR is optimized for Serato DJ software, which costs $100+ by itself), so by going with Rekordbox you save $100+ in software...and I believe this still works with Serato if you hate Rekordbox ...pair this with any apple laptop or a good Windows laptop and you are insta DJ...no music? No problem...$20 a month gives you access to pulselocker (a Pandora for DJs... which allows offline download of almost any song at 320kbs... of which you can then mix and enhance with this DJ controller...and more importantly pulse locker gives legal permission to publicly perform the songs)...

I recommend the Yamaha Stagepas600i speakers to go with this ...they sound great

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-RB Portable 2-Channel DJ Controller for Rekordbox DJ:

After a lot of research I settled on the DDJ-RB package. The main driving forces for my purchase were price and getting what I wanted sooner than later. I originally wanted the DDJ-RR and plan on getting one in the future. However, $697 was a bit steep for me to afford along with space being an issue. The DDJ-RB I could get around my birthday and its dimensions fit perfectly on my desk area.

Yeah, you don't get all the nice metal finishes, and what replaces those are high quality plastic. That isn't a bad thing in this case. If you like things being made with metal finishes, you might want to pass this up and go with the DDJ-RR. But if you're like me, like metal finishes but can't afford to pay the premium price, high quality plastic will suffice. The DDJ-RB delivers in that regard. I came from a Kontrol S4 and Traktor Pro 2 setup so I was really sketchy on switching platforms. I'm glad I was wrong in feeling that.

Setup and usage are really easy; install the software, install the drivers and you're good to go. You can channel everything through your computer speakers without having to use the RCA master out, but my suggestion is to use the RCA master out and connect to some powered speakers or a stereo system. There is about a 1/8 beat lag when using everything through the computer so keep that in mind. The jog wheels are top notch on this controller and its nice to see Pioneer didn't gimp out on them. Anyone using the jog wheels will be pleasantly surprised. All the other faders and effects buttons feel nice, but they do feel slightly cheaper than say the DDJ-RR.

The only 2 cons I have are the short pitch faders and 3.5mm Headphone jack. They pitch faders take some getting used to beginners beware, as they can be a little unforgiving, and headphone jack is just a preference of mine. If you like lots of outputs, you'll only get RCA's as your master out, so be mindful of that as well. Otherwise, a great controller for all levels of DJ's!

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-RB Portable 2-Channel DJ Controller for Rekordbox DJ:

I used to DJ professionally 15+ years ago, and wanted this exact kind of controller back then.

I recently started craving the DJ lifestyle again and decided to look into controllers. I did my research before I bought this, so I already knew it only had 2 deck capabilities. I figure if I'm ready to upgrade to 4 deck, I'll probably get high-end equipment, like the DDJ-1000.

I went with this controller over the SB3 for a few reasons. I get the full license for RekordBox without having to pay extra (that's like $100 savings). And because I like the function and style of RekordBox over Serato. But this is a personal thing.
The SB3 has the 4 deck option, which is what would have won that over the RB, but again, the SB3 only comes with Serato Lite, which limits functionality until you purchase the full software package.

If you're buying this used, expect the RekordBox license to already be in use . I always figured it was a given that used items lose their codes, but some people aren't aware of that?

The front headphone jack is 3.5mm instead of 2.5mm, and this can be a huge thing for some people. I might start caring if I go pro again, but for now this works just fine.

The outputs are RCA only from the device itself. I usually run audio through my computer, but doing so removes the functionality of the master volume control dial on the controller. With RCA cables, there is no ground hum. I've seen complaints about these devices having that problem, but I'm willing to bet their systems weren't grounded properly in the first place.

The jog wheels have touch capacity, which is amazing (can stop track by touching the jog wheel), but can be annoying at times.

I haven't used the mic input from the back of the controller yet, so I can't comment on its functionality.

I have zero regrets for purchasing this controller. I wish it had 4 deck control, but that's really minor to me at this point (I'm sure I could program RekordBox to swap through keyboard functions).
