This boutique series has long been available exclusively via custom order, with the wait time and high-end professional pricing that go along with it. Now, with this Master Series Maple/Gum 4-piece shell pack, Pearl has made a Masterworks kit accessible as a limited-production model for the first time. This shell pack features one of the most popular hybrid wood “recipes” from the series, plus a curated selection of prestige finishes, opening elite Masterworks quality to more drummers for a limited run.

Pearl crafts the Masters Maple/Gum drums exactly like a Masterworks kit. The only difference is that instead of the limitless options of a Masterworks custom order, this shell pack is pre-selected in two versatile 4-piece configurations: a rock-size pack with 10x7 and 12x8” rack toms, 16x16” floor tom and 22x16” bass drum, and a fusion pack with same rack toms, 14x14” floor tom and 20x14” bass drum. Matching snare drums are available separately, making it possible to create a full Pearl Masterworks-level drum kit without the extra time and cost of a special order from the factory.

In 2017, Pearl introduced the Sonic Select shell formulas as custom options for their Masterworks kits. Each shell recipe drew from the wide array of available materials to design the perfect drum shell for a specific application. In the case of the Studio Recipe, that meant a hybrid 6-ply wood shell, made from two plies of gum wood on the inside and four plies of North American maple on the outside, cut to an outer 60-degree bearing edge. This particular recipe became exceptionally popular among Pearl artists for its powerful midrange warmth and low-end sustain. It met such high demand, in fact, that Pearl created this Masters Maple/Gum series to make the recipe available to a wider range of drummers. The end result is a pack of genuine, vault-cured Masterworks shells, no custom order needed. 

Premium wrap and lacquer finishes, fit for a master

To help control prices while keeping the Masters Maple/Gum series up to Masterworks standards, Pearl is offering these shell packs in four premium finishes, chosen from the nearly endless set of Masterworks options. Drummers can choose from three wraps, including Black Diamond Pearl, Matte White Marine and Platinum Gold Oyster, or highlight the wood with the Hand-Rubbed Natural Maple lacquer.

Pearl completed this 4-piece shell pack with top-tier hardware, curated to work best with the Studio Recipe. This includes MasterCast die-cast hoops, low-contact CL bridge lugs and Pearl’s lightweight OptiMount Aluminum Suspension System, which holds the rack toms firmly in place while letting them resonate freely.
