Stand is a little lightweight, but doesn't feel overly flimsy. The balance is pretty good and I don't worry about accidentally knocking my banjo over on this stand. It does not as another reviewer said cradle the banjo's tone ring unless you're using an open back or have a really cheap banjo with a very small resonator. I've got 3 banjos - a Deering deluxe, an Earl Scruggs Standard, and a Huber Workhorse - and all are held fairly stably by the resonator.

Using this for a mandolin stand, and with its adjustability, it's great for that. The problem is with the plastic neck restraint strap that is supposed to keep the head stock from coming forward. This piece doesn't stay on the holder, so we have to find it in the bag, and it's not all that reliable when it comes to knocking the instrument off the stand accidentally--which of course we will endeavor not to do, protective strap or not. But the strap doesn't hold tightly, and that is the reason for the three stars: it should work.

Comments about Peak Music Stands ST-30 Banjo or Mandolin Stand:

I am using to hold my banjo at home and when performing and it works great. It does not let the instrument fall forward and break the headstock like a typical stand does. It lays back at a larger angle and the bottom supports are designed to support the tone ring instead of resonator.

Comments about Peak Music Stands ST-30 Banjo or Mandolin Stand:

I have been learning claw hammer banjo and want my banjo out where I can see and easily grab it for some impromptu bum-ditty. It is lightweight and easily collapsed for travel if I am inclined to go out to a jam. The flip side of lightweight is that it is a bit unstable. It's fine here at the house, but, if I were a working musician, I would definitely look for something with more heft. Easily adjustable and well engineered.

Comments about Peak Music Stands ST-30 Banjo or Mandolin Stand:

This is the second stand I've purchased. This one is for a 1938 mandolin so naturally I wanted something reliable. This stand never leaves the house but the other stand does and has held up well.

Comments about Peak Music Stands ST-30 Banjo or Mandolin Stand:

This is a nice well built stand. Only thing is the top extension that holds the neck does not lock well. Not a problem at all when stationery. But when I pickup the stand and mandolin to move it same time the top extension moves a bit. Again, really not a big deal. This stand is well built and a good value.
