Overview

The SE Standard 245 has a classic voice that is eminently recordable and gig-ready. The 24.5" scale length makes this instrument instantly comfortable to players who prefer short-scale guitars. Classic PRS appointments include a set Wide Fat mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard with bird inlays, PRS-Designed stoptail bridge, tuners, and 245 humbuckers. The all-mahogany body is reminiscent of Paul's first pre-factory instruments and offers a warm, woody tone.

Since 2001, the SE Series has been offering incredible quality and great tone at affordable prices. The introduction of the SE Standard models represents a significant extension of the SE Series into the <$500 price point. The goal of the SE Series has always been to provide a quality instrument to players of all levels one that would not fight the player, but encourage him or her to start and to keep playing. PRS is proud to extend this promise to an even more attainable price point with the SE Standard lineup.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

I had to give this review because the one previous review seemed inaccurate. He is correct that out of the box, the intonation is off, but that can be adjusted by two small allen wrench screws in the back of the bridge. Perhaps that didn't work for him, but he didn't mention trying to fix the intonation.

I will agree that the pickups are voiced for hard rock and not very versatile. I personally wasn't a fan of them and opted to replace them with some Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers. After the change, I don't have a better sounding guitar.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

Purchased the PRS SE 245 Standard online and it was delivered to my GC store in Raleigh in 2 days! The buying process was terrific and the guitar looked great on arrival. Unfortunately, the guitar's intonation was way off, particularly high on the fret board. I thought at first that the strings just needed stretching, but the intonation problems persisted. Also, I was not pleased with the guitar's clean tones. Both pickups sound best when driven. It really sustains beautifully when fully driven. This is definitely a rock guitar. Forget jazz. I ended up returning the guitar to my GC store for a full refund. No problem with the refund process.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

Love it. Its heavy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just know that it definitely has some mass to it. Looks great, quality is great and sounds great. I use a modelling amp most of the time for practice and this guitar sounds like a beast for metal and rock. Its a rock solid workhorse of a guitar and I personally like it just as much as any comparable Les Paul I've played. The neck is smooth and silky, the controls work and feel great and the overall feel and quality of the guitar are wonderful.

My only complaint would be the bevel on the edges of the body. The Tremonti has more of a beveled shape and I believe is a bit smaller and lighter. I only with the SE had a similarly aggressive bevel to make the body just a bit more comfortable.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

I bought one two weeks ago from my local Guitar Center. It is fun to play so far. It is a heavy guitar, but I am a big dude and it feels good to me. Maybe not suitable for small players or those with back problems. Similar to a Les Paul in style, weight and tone, but not identical. It has a fat neck, stays in tune, and was intonated well right away (I bought it off the showroom floor). Looks great with the glossy tobacco sunburst. I like to play blues and it has a good tone for that. I played it through my Peavey Delta Blues 115 and it has a great tone for country, jazz and blues on the clean channel . Not as great as my Epiphone DOT or Gibson Blues Hawk but it definitely is NOT poor tone quality for those styles. I played it through my Orange Micro Terror with higher gain and it really sounds awesome. This guitar is better suited for hard rock, gritty blues rock and maybe even metal? (I don't play metal but I could see it sounding well). But like I mentioned earlier, it is suitable for all styles. I like it for lead and rhythm. Neck pickup is cool and punchy, bridge pickup is sharp and twangy. If you like Bad Company, Free, Cream or Zeppelin like I do and can't afford a Gibson Les Paul, this is a nice, less expensive alternative. I also have a Gibson SG and compared to that, the SE 245 is noticeably heavier but has more sustain as well. I can't say enough how great the glossy tobacco sunburst body looks. I've gotten quite a few compliments already.

I think most of the low ratings on here come from people that buy them online and get them shipped with problems. Word of advice to young guitar players, always go to a guitar shop and play several guitars before purchasing one. Also, if you buy online, have it setup by a luthier or guitar tech before judging the instrument.

          Big Disappointment

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

Although the website said In Stock and Ready To Ship, it took two weeks to receive my guitar, which I thought was excessive. Then, upon unpacking my purchase, I observed a perfectly round dent right on the top of the guitar, as if a marble had been dropped from a third floor balcony. I opted to return the instrument to my local Guitar Center tetail store. The return process was quick and painless, but the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth, as I was paying for a first-quality, factory-fresh item, not a factory second or blem. Lesson learned. No more internet purchases of items like guitars. Hands-on only.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

Mostly, I just play guitar for the enjoyment that I get out of it. I am very happy with the PRS SE 245 standard that I purchased. I feel that one of the great things about the PRS SE line is that you will get a lot of guitar for the money. I have felt the same way with the other SE's that I have owned. If your not looking to spend a ton of money for a top of the line instrument and want something mainly for learning on, playing in your home, or even performing, I feel the SE 245 would be a good choice. The 245 definitely feels similar to a Les Paul. It is a single cut guitar, however it may be somewhat lighter than some of the Gibsons. I do feel a difference in string tension from the scale length. The 245 strings are easy to bend, which may take a little getting used to. Overall, I am very satisfied with how the instrument sounds/feels and would recommend it to anyone looking for a single cut in the under $600 range.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar:

This guitar is everything that is advertised...I really enjoy the wide fat neck and the ease of playability. The only knock that I would have is with Guitar Center more so than the guitar. Apparently there were only 6 guitars left in inventory across the country and the guitar that I received had an uneven tone knob. A minor issue, but nothing to prevent playability. I was appreciative of the phone call to let me know that the guitar I was receiving was a floor model and not new in box.
