If you're looking for a guitar that really stands out from the ordinary, you're definitely on the right track by checking out Ovation guitars. The founder of the company, Charles Kaman, was an aeronautical engineer by trade when he decided to go into the luthier business, and he brought the expertise he had creating high-tech aviation materials along with him. That led to the unique rounded composite back that's found on all of Ovation's guitars, an innovation which delivers great sound and a comfortable playing experience. The backs of the guitars weren't the only things that Charles Kaman decided to approach from a new angle, either. Take a look at the instruments in the Elite series and you'll see another difference: there's no central tone hole. Instead, these guitars use 22 smaller holes positioned along the edges of the body near the neck. It's a visually striking change, and it's not just about the looks. That distinctive configuration is designed to produce better volume and lower feedback when they're amplified. Of course, there are plenty of standard tone hole arrangements in the Ovation lineup as well, so you've got your choice between the two styles.
