beyerdynamic | M 88 Dynamic Moving-Coil Microphone (Hypercardioid) - Product Presentation

collapse expand iconDescription

The beyerdynamic M88 dynamic moving-coil microphone delivers a powerful, transparent sound perfect for capturing vocals and instruments with stunning detail. Handcrafted in Germany since 1963, the M88 utilizes premium components to achieve a frequency range of 30Hz–20,000Hz and high sensitivity for use in both studio and live settings. With its hypercardioid polar pattern, the M88 microphone rejects unwanted noise and feedback to focus on the source in front of the mic.

Premium Components for a Natural Sound

The M88 microphone is assembled by hand using only the highest quality materials to produce an authentic, uncolored sound. Its Hostaphan diaphragm is an extremely thin, lightweight foil that vibrates with ease to capture the full depth and clarity of any audio source. An integrated hum-compensating coil eliminates electromagnetic interference for a clean signal. Thoughtful acoustic engineering, like the labyrinth chamber, provides even attenuation across all frequencies.

Versatile Performance for Vocals and Instruments

With its wide, balanced frequency range and high sensitivity, the M88 microphone excels on a variety of sound sources. Its pronounced proximity effect is perfect for emphasizing the low end of vocals and acoustic instruments. Drummers and sound engineers alike appreciate the M88's ability to capture the true, punchy tone of kick drums and toms. Its highly directional polar pattern also makes the M88 an excellent choice for miking guitar amps, wind instruments and for podcasting applications where isolation is key.

Roadworthy Ruggedness

Despite its premium components, the M88 microphone is designed to withstand the rigors of daily professional use. Its solid brass housing protects the internal parts from damage while remaining lightweight and easy to position. With minimal parts and a straightforward design focused on audio quality, the M88 delivers consistent performance for years of regular use. Should any part need replacement, most components can be serviced directly by the manufacturer.

A Modern Classic

For over 50 years, the M88 dynamic microphone has earned its reputation as a versatile, great-sounding tool for studio and stage. With a look and sound that balances vintage character and modern performance, the M88 continues to inspire new generations of musicians and audio engineers. Experience this legend for yourself and add an M88 microphone to your live or recording rig.
