Overview

The Roland RD-2000 is a dream come true for the performing keyboardist. It features dual sound engines that power Roland's best acoustic and electric pianos ever, plus the finest action they have ever put into a stage piano. There’s a massive selection of top-quality ensemble sounds to cover any musical task, as well as two wave expansion slots for adding even more sounds. And with its innovative modern interface, the RD-2000 is the perfect master controller for working with today’s software-based instruments—taking this industry-standard stage piano series to new levels of inspiration and creativity.

Incredibly Powerful Piano Engine
In a word, the RD-2000’s acoustic piano sounds are magnificent. Incorporating Roland’s latest piano technologies and long-running V-Piano research, the acoustic voice is incredibly natural, responsive, and richly detailed. The dedicated acoustic engine features full-keyboard polyphony, allowing you to realize authentic piano performances without no compromises. Via a second SuperNATURAL-based sound engine, the RD-2000 gives you access to a wide range of classic electric pianos from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Included are newly developed recreations of the RD-1000 and MKS-20 sound module from the 1980s. Driven by Roland’s milestone SA technology, their unique musical voices are instantly recognizable from that era’s hit records. Vintage effects are also on hand for processing your EPs, including the famous BOSS CE-1 Chorus and Roland SDD-320 Dimension D.

Superb Playability
The PHA-50 progressive hammer-action keyboard with escapement is the ideal platform for playing the RD-2000’s responsive acoustic and electric pianos. This innovative keyboard features hybrid keys constructed of wood and molded materials, combining classic feel with rugged durability. Together with Roland’s advanced sensor mechanism and hammer-action design, the PHA-50 delivers authentic grand piano touch that’s right at home under your fingers.

Designed for the Stage
With its intuitive interface, navigating the RD-2000 during live performances is a breeze. Eight knobs and nine sliders provide instant control for sounds, effects, and more, and the knobs feature LED indicators for precise adjustment with instant visual feedback. The RD-2000 features eight assignable zones that allow you to map sounds to different key ranges, or create combination sounds with up to eight layers. And with the new Scene function, you can save 100 different snapshots of the entire keyboard setup and recall them with a quick button touch while performing.

Performance Powerhouse
Equipped with Roland’s classic pitch/mod lever and two modulation wheels, the RD-2000 provides expressive options for any performance style. The dual wheels are useful for detailed sound adjustment on external synths, and are independently assignable per program. The RD-2000’s dynamic encoder knobs bring a new level of control to your live performances. LED indicators show the current knob value at a glance, even on the darkest stages. They also respond to velocity, allowing you to execute precise edits with slow movements and quickly move through tones and parameters with fast movements.

Ensemble Sounds for Every Genre
In addition to its world-class pianos, the versatile RD-2000 includes over 1100 additional sounds for covering any style of music with just one keyboard. Roland’s SuperNATURAL technology provides highly expressive Virtual Tone Wheel organs, modern and vintage synths, clavinet, orchestral strings, brass, and many other sound types. At Roland’s Axial sound website, you’ll find even more sounds to load into the RD-2000’s two wave expansion slots, including selections from previous RD instruments. And if you’re stepping up from the RD-800, you’ll be pleased to know that all your Live Sets are fully compatible with the RD-2000.

Command and Control
The RD-2000 offers the most extensive controller features of any RD piano to date, making it the perfect solution for commanding a large-scale setup. With the ability to seamlessly integrate internal sounds, software-based instruments, hardware sound modules, and more, the RD-2000 is mission control for the most advanced stage shows. Via the RD-2000’s USB audio/MIDI interface, it’s easy to integrate software instruments with a studio DAW or a laptop running your favorite host software on stage. You can control soft synths with zones along with internal sounds, and route their audio through the RD-2000 to create a powerful hybrid rig. The interface supports 24-bit audio at rates up to 192 kHz, allowing you to access your highest quality sounds. The RD-2000 supports Roland’s newly developed RAINLINK protocol, which provides high-resolution velocity control for compatible software instruments. This ability is particularly effective for deriving the subtlest tonal nuances out of supported software-based pianos.

Built for Professional Performers
Combining the traditional RD-series appearance with elements of the V-Piano, the RD-2000 embodies both tradition and innovation. It’s designed from the ground up with the working pro in mind, with careful consideration of details regarding the interface workflow, sound organization, and physical layout of connectors, switches, knobs, and sliders. While the RD-2000’s feature upgrades are significant, its weight hasn’t changed from the previous RD generation. It’s still easy to transport from gig to gig, and the aluminum body is both handsome and extremely durable. The RD-2000’s four pedal inputs can be configured for damper pedals, expression pedals, and more. A DP-10 pedal is included for damper pedal operation.

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

First of it is a quality product, great built. The keybed is smooth, just right for me and hopefully yours too. The ivory helps my sweaty fingers from sliding too much. The Audio Interface built in is great, at 48K 24bit that i used, i have no complain. The V-piano sounds is amazing and the E.piano are useful. The effects are easy to use. Knobs and faders are built to last. I have a good time at church and I mainly play contemporary christian music. If you have are considering it, you won't regret it.

The RD-2000 is a game-changing stage piano. Look no further!

By PianoMan

from Austin, TX

Pros

  • 9 sliders that can be used as B3 drawbars
  • Incredible Piano Action
  • V-Piano Engine

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Gigging keyboardist
    • Keyboardist who needs full B3 control
    • The ultimate stage piano that has everything

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

Briefly, the RD-2000 stage piano has the incredible V-Piano engine. Although it doesn't have all the available features, having the engine in a stand-alone keyboard for this price versus the actual V-Piano's price is great. Plus, the SuperNatural pianos are awesome as well, so it's got it all. The 9 sliders can double as real-time drawbars for controlling the "Tonewheel Organ" sounds, to emulate a B3. I have already used this live, and it works great. There's so much to love about this keyboard, but it simply has everything I am looking for. The action is great, and I only need one board plus some foot pedals to do everything I need. This is a game changer.

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

I mainly use it for contemporary worship music at church with mainstage 3. Rd2000 help me eliminate my setup so I carry less and I don't have to worry much about interface failure and cable connection failure since that's out of my equation. The interface build in that I use for MS3 is pretty good, no delay. The touch of the key bad is as expected and more. Can't complain about the piano sounds since i can manipulate it. All my pads are from omnisphere so I don't really have to worry about the sounds in the RD but they are still useful.
This is a quality product and I do not regret waiting for it.

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

I was using Yamaha MOXF8 before this and also tried Yamaha CP4, Roland RD-2000 stand out totally. Key touch is good, many GOOD sounds that's great for live playing. I bought it for myself, but it's so good that I bought one for the church too! The program bank and scenes are very useful for different pianist in the church and also save your favorite easily. If there's any dislike, I only wish that it will be a smooth transitioning of sound from one program or one voice to another. But the sound is so good and the fader can manually do the joy as needed. Highly recommended + it is the latest stage piano in town!

      Pros

      • Bread and butter sounds are amazing!
      • Easily integrate external sounds
      • Perfect feel in terms of the keybed
      • Very easy to use - split and layers in seconds

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

I had to trade in my Kronos X73 because the keybed was affecting my hands. At the same time I needed something with the features of the Kronos that I really loved - like being able to layer and split sounds easily and being to able to use sliders to adjust individual volumes on the fly. I also wanted something with comparable sounds. Third, I wanted something that I could plug my Mac directly into and incorporate MainStage easily. Finally, I didn't want to have to carry alot of excess equipment. One other important point - I didn't need all the extras that the Kronos had.

I first traded for the FA08 because it had the best keybed for what I had in budget and I thought I would be able to work around the menus to get what I wanted, but after one service I had major note dropouts (probably the way I layer sound but that's how I work). I took it back to GC, and in looking around and I messed up and played the RD2000. It felt incredible and the piano was on point. Then I went to the E Pianos and I could've cried it sounded so good. At the point there was no turning back ...

I'm totally satisfied. I was a little afraid of the weight but, even though it's about the weight of the Kronos 73, it's long but not as wide so it's easier to handle. While I'm mentioning length, one thing I found out the hard way - make sure your keybag is at least 55.5" to 56" or it won't fit.

          • The ultimate stage piano for a gigging keyboardi

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

This replaced a 24-year old Roland RD-500. To say they've made progress in a quarter century would be a gross understatement. The piano sounds are first class, the action is as close as I've ever seen to an acoustic piano. It has so many features, they cannot all be listed here. Unlike the some of the older RD models, this one is firmware upgradable, and Roland already has done their first one. Installation of the update was painless.

I have been playing piano and keyboard for over 20 years. While the realism of sounds has come along way in the digital realm, Roland has really outdone themselves. The dual sound engines give you a range of sounds that covers everything you would ever need. This is one of those instruments that inspires you to play and create. Great for using external sounds, giving you almost limitless options. Highly recommend.

Comments about Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano:

I considered all the powerhouse stage pianos. I already own a Nord Stage 2 with 73 keys, which is my preference for sound, portability and live navigation. But I needed a daily practice piano which had a firmer and more realistic piano action. The Kawai MP-10 is my preference for action, but the overall instrument weight is too much, they have average voices, and are about to be replaced by the MP-11 next year. And I couldn't wait til next year. The Roland RD-2000 hit the sweet spot on action, overall weight, internal voices and price. I'm not disappointed with it. I'm still trilled. The piano modeling and vintage electric piano voices are tops. It has two different tone generators; which helps with feeling that all your sounds are homogenous. My only concern is that they may have slightly sluggish touch; which might give you pause. It will -- however-- give you a workout, but makes organ playing impossible. You can quote the Hammond, but if you really play organ -- which was my first instrument as a child -- you'll find it frustrating. You can't have it all in one action, and I use the Nords unnotable action for organ.
