The Blowtorch!

Comments about MXR M-181 Bass Blowtorch Overdrive Distortion Pedal:

I bought this little monster in December for Christmas, and have had countless practices and two shows with it. The pedal really brings my bass sound out to the front. I love it! It has alot of tone-shaping control with the mid-range switch & the 3-band EQ. After playing around with these, you can have just the right bass and treble in your distortion. And then the blend and gain knobs can give you wide range of sounds - a subtle overdrive, a deep growl, or a gnarly high-gain distortion. And then with one push of the Torch switch on the side and you can add some chainsaw heaviness to your custom-made distortion. It's an MXR, so you know you will get high-quality electronics in an indestructable casing. It's a great ditortion pedal made for bass, and delivers much more tone and power than the Boss bass overdrive. If you are looking for something that will bring your bass out to the front, this is what you are looking for.

Good Lord!!!!

Comments about MXR M-181 Bass Blowtorch Overdrive Distortion Pedal:

Go get one now!!!! If you are looking for a bass overdrive go get it now. It's worth every penny, mid shift and blend puts the distortion right where you want it plus the 3 band eq. makes this thing a champ!!!! True hardware bypass, clean when you turn it off, and an extra kick via torch pedal if the straight up hotter than he?# gain is not enough. Don't waste money on multi effects processors that do a little of everything halfway. Get the pedal made for that effect. I will not look at another bass O.D. ever!

freakin awesome!!

Comments about MXR M-181 Bass Blowtorch Overdrive Distortion Pedal:

I got this as a christmas gift for my first distortion pedal, and i gotta say this thing blew my mind! i got a great sound running my fender precision through it and cranking it. it get kinda loud though with the volume and gain turned up too far, and might mess with the sound, but its fine if you either turn the box or your amp down. the torch button was really a great idea, but for me, if i turned the gain up all the way then hit the torch, it let loose with a sound that earned it the moniker "the fart button". all in all, a great pedal, its right beside my wah, and its a staple on my board

Comments about MXR M-181 Bass Blowtorch Overdrive Distortion Pedal:

very nice pedal. i use it as a clean boost.
i am presently using it, with the distortion at its minimum setting, mix around 1:00 o'clock, mid freq at 750, with eq set not to dramatically change the tone. t works real nice as a pre eq boost pedal and with the mix up all the way you can add a shade of distortion too. (not sure if its worth the high dollars value but i purchased it on one of those deal of the day sales at a reasonable price)...
its an analog design; no digital distortion however not tweelable friendly unless you have a steady hand and a serious magnifying glass as the entire circuit is extremely small surface mount components... (i don't think the folks at dunlop will release the schematic either) ... that being said it is a very nice sounding pedal for guitar given the option of three mid range eq selections (low med and high) via the three way switch....
i'm using two on my pedal board for two different boost tones, one darker than the other

    Versatile, thick, quality MXR goodness

Comments about MXR M-181 Bass Blowtorch Overdrive Distortion Pedal:

I've twisted all the knobs in many different configurations, and I've dialed in a VARIETY of nice tones. It can get really mean sounding, or add just a nice UMPH. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it, but with the flexibility of this pedal, I have MANY options. I've run my bass through it direct and also in my pedal chain, trying to figure out where this thing lives. I've also run my Moog Sub Phattie through it and got some really sweet overtones! I've had the Mxr Bass Di + for many years and LOVE it. This Blowtorch has some similar tone-shaping characteristics in that it can scoop and carve out the bass tones in the mix quite nicely--giving thickness to the bottom and nice clarity in the highs. The mid shift really does go the extra mile in giving options, though. So in certain aspects, this Blowtorch offers more variety in tone. Also, it's QUIET, even when the gain is all the way up. Only gripe: you either use two 9 volts at a time, or you get the $15 18v adapter (sold separately). I tried w/ 9 volts to see if I was gonna keep this pedal (I am), so now I have the adapter ordered and on the way. I got the pedal when it was a Daily Pick deal. Would I suggest it even at full price? Sure.
