Focusrite // Recording Lower Than Atlantis with the Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic

Description
Eight natural-sounding 2nd-generation Scarlett mic/line inputs deliver high headroom, plenty of clean gain, low noise and minimal distortion—ideal for tracking drums as well guitars, keyboards, vocals and more. The front panel features two instrument inputs with extended headroom. ADAT outputs let you connect to any interface or digital system with ADAT optical inputs, and analog line outputs let you feed an analog console at the same time as recording with the digital outputs.

I have full recording home studio with rack mount/keyboard synths, V drums, a drum machine, and a guitar effects processor. I got tired of plugging and unplugging audio cables to track outboard gear into DAW. The Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 gave me 8 inputs. I found out the OctoPre could give me 8 more via ADAT connection through a Toslink cable. Syncing up the 2 units is done through Toslink cable. I use OctoPre internal digital clock (press hardware button on front of unit) and slave the 18i20 by selecting ADAT clock control on the Focusrite 18i20 software control panel. I can keep my outboard gear plugged in now. This will also enable several musicians to track record live simultaneously. I plan on upgrading my V drums to a Roland TD-20 or TD-30. These units have individual outputs for each drum and cymbal. OctoPre gives me plenty of extra audio inputs so I can record 10 drums sounds simultaneously on different tracks in Protools DAW. This saves me time.

What is the difference between the Hitmaker and Dynamic Octopre?

It says this is an expansion, so does that mean this works as an interface by itself, or does it have to connect to another interface such as the 18i20? I need at least 8 inputs now, and at some point I may need to add additional inputs. I am just looking for a Scarlett interface that gives me 8 inputs plus the possibility to connect another of itself or a different interface. Would this be the ideal choice, or would I need a different model?
It requires a seperate interface, Please see "Focusrite Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic"submitted7 years ago

Hello It's my understanding the Octopre will recieve analog-in, then convert and send the signal out via adat lightpipe as well as analog out, but my question is can it also recieve adat lightpipe pre recorded tracks and convert those tracks to analog out as well? I'd like to have it between my mixing console and my internal PCI adat I/O card seemlessly without having to access any software to change configurations in order to accomplish the above. If not can anyone recommend a company and or unit that will do what I'm looking for. Recently 1 of my RME ADi-8 DS 8 channel converters has failed and is headed for repair but till then i need a stand in. My other 2 8 ch converters are very low end and I'll probably purchase 2 Octopres if they do what i need. thank you so much, Mark Ps: I'm using a Win 7 Pro and Sonar Platinum.
This unit could not do this. One recommendation would be the Apogee Rosetta 800.
